Thanks so much for all of the lovely replies!! I really appreciate it.
It's time for another update--as I needed to reposition the qsnap. It's nearly finished and here is what it's looking like now.

:applesauce: lovely. The heron is perfect. Looks just like the one behind my house, though he doesn't get to stand among flowers, just a muddy creek bottom. Yours is much prettier.

:) Thanks so much ComaStitch, and by all means, go for it--I know I have really enjoyed stitching it up, and the best thing is, there really won't be much backstitching to do!!
Carole, we've actually had one visit our back yard a few years ago--guess he was thinking he could get at the goldfish that hubby has in an outdoor pond. Thank goodness, we had thought to add screening to the pond, so he was unsuccessful. It definitely was neat to see him and I know I've got pictures of it somewhere, just need to hunt them down!!

I managed to locate the pictures I'd taken of the visit we had from a blue heron, it was so awesome to watch and I'm glad I got at least a couple of fairly decent photos. Here they are

Needless to say, I was quite amazed when I looked out the window that day and saw big blue!! I'd wondered why my pet birds had been startled and quickly understood the reason. The heron definitely was in no hurry to leave--I think he was in the yard nearly 10 mins or so, and didn't seem bothered at all by my getting relatively close to take pictures. That being said, my camera is nearly always right at hand!! I think that the heron just got a bit off course--there is a fairly decent sized river just about 1/4 of a mile down the road from us.

I think you beautiful visitor just wanted to try out new surroundings Karen. How wonderful to see it so closely. Back home in Christchurch we used to see the white herons from time to time down near the estuary. Majestic birds.

Your stitched one is comign along famously too. Well done :applesauce: :applesauce:
