Magnifying chart markers

Post by BizzieLizzie »

Have any of you tried one of these and if so are they any good?

They don't show enough of the chart for me so didn't like it at all, just me mind. Do you have an i.pad? if so put your charts onto Goodreader and stitch from your i.pad, you can have it as big as you want - no more squinting! and cross of as you go in any colour you want, and it saves it all, couldn't stitch any other way now, love it,

@bizzieLizzie: This looks as if it could be useful, especially on something like an HAED, where there is a lot of confetti and you aren't moving it very often. The cross in the centre could be particularly helpful in place-keeping.

@crafterglen Ipad, huh... :thinks: If you use Goodreader (which I presume is an app), can you also mark off the chart?

My FIL swears by this for his stitching. He has one of those magnetic boards for his chart and this sits neatly on top. He's found it really useful for scarlet quince charts with all their confetti and things like Teresa Wentzlers. He has varifocals too and doesn't have a problem using it with them.

I still tend to curl up in odd places to stitch, so would probably keep knocking it on the floor off my chart. May yet be converted though....

I use an iPad as well. But I use the app called Goodnotes. I'm sure it's very similar to the Goodreader app, which I'm not familiar with. The zoom is incredible! It is very easy to highlight and mark off what you've stitched. Not to mention the amount of money I will be saving on ink and paper, also nice to save a few trees.

I had and used this Loran Magnetic Line Magnifier that would enlarge the stitches on the row I was stitching and maybe one or two below and above. I don't know where I put it. It sticks to a magnetic board chart holder which I use all the time. Also have Goodreads on my iPad and though I still like the paper chart, if I have trouble figuring out a symbol I enlarge that section on the iPad and it isn't a problem.
I now have a Daylight Magnifier lamp so that helps with stitching on the higher count fabrics. I don't mind getting older, but I wish my eyesight wouldn't get older too!

Thank you for your comments, everyone.

It hadn't occurred to me to use an iPad - good idea! Hubby has one, but he's addicted to it and I don't think he could cope with me commandeering it for hours on end to do stitching.

I saw the Loran Line Magnifier on an internet search and might try either that or the Pako one in my initial post (or order both and send back the one that's less good).

Plenty to think about. :thinks:

Serinde Julie has just said most of what I would have, the i.pad with good reader app is fabulous, you can have your chart any size you wish, score off in any colour, cross off, squiggle off which ever you want, it saves what you have done and opens up right where you left off, you have no need of a magnifyer, pens or coloured pencils, everything is right on the i.pad in front of you, brilliant.
