There are Dimensions to DMC and Anchor lists online, but I suspect I will just carry on and hope for the best in the current project and be prepared to see what happens when I start the new project in a few years time.

Here's a question about Caron Waterlilies: My first order of them is due in tomorrow. Is this a floss that can be wound on my DMC bobbins; or is it too big/thick for that & if so, how do y'all handle them???

I  Caron Waterlillies - I don't wind them on bobbins (I'm pretty sure that Mabel does though), but that is just my personal choice as I like to see the skein in all its silky glory! I store mine in floss-a-way bags and just cut lengths off as and when I need them (waterlillies are 12 stranded as compared to DMC being 6 stranded) and save every last little piece as I don't want to waste any!

Enjoy your new threads Diana - what will you be stitching with them?

I've been kitting up this from Stoney Creek:

http://store.stoneycreek.com/leaflet--1 ... p2656.aspx" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

NOT the best picture...I fell in  with the general "feel" of it (and the wording is esp. apropos for me)...funny thing, the 2 waterlilies called for (Fir & Dawn) I've been looking around for:

http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-perl/abcSearch/search.cgi" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

The picture there on 123 Stitch shows a TURQUOISE-TEALISH color....NOT at all what I got from the feel of the actuall design (I have the chart) Hmmmd & Hwwwd about getting that...so I went back over to Stoney Creek website & ordered this:

http://store.stoneycreek.com/caron-coll ... p4488.aspx" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

So, today the USPS should be delivering those 2 Waterlilies along with the Glissen Gloss rainbow blend.

I've stashed the beads, the Anchor floss & now the specialty floss for this one. Can't find the exact fabby they used; but I'm not certain that's what I want to use anyways. I really *shouldn't* start this one until after the new year (what with all my :wip: s now).

eta: I don't know WHAT the 123 Stitch website is doing, I did a search for the Waterlilies 112 & their product page shows the Turquoise/tealish....

Very nice Diana! I don't know what the 123 stitch website is playing at either - I have Waterlillies Fir and it is definitely NOT like that, Steony Creek have it right :D

Hi there.

I'm new to the site today but this is something that I talk to all my stitching pals about. I'm a DMC girl. They are the easiest available and the nicest to stitch with.

I've used Anchor threads when they've come in kits but I find they go fluffy when I use them. I don't mind Designer Stitches threads but can't get them for love nor money so I gave up looking. The only threads I can't get away with are metallics. They just don't work well in my hands.

I never use cheap threads (like non branded economy packs in Poundstretcher for eg) because you just don't know what they'll do, how they finish or if they'll wash.

At the end of the day, it comes down to personal preference. If it works, use it.

DMC and Anchor.

Anchor is actually better for flowers and colorful designs but DMC has better darker shades.

Careful though, Anchor colors may run-off.

The green ones in particular. Although the color does not come off, it may color your hands green. I think this is true for certain productions. They may have changed their formula.

Anyway, I posted a poll in my blog about DMC versus Anchor. Here are photos of the outcome. One is in DMC, another is in Anchor. I won't tell which one but I would like to ask you which one is better? Brand X or Brand Y
