magnifiers

Post by goldie621 »

I am in my 60's and my eyesight isn't what it used to be. I now need help working on 14 count aida. Does anybody have a recommendation for a type of magnifier I might use? Right now I am using a swing lamp magnifier with a good light, but it gets quite hot after a half hour or so. I was wondering if there is another choice I might make.
Thanks for your help.

I have this light/magnifier combo that I like. It has a base so you can set it on a table to use or you can take it off the base and clip it to your frame. The biggest problem is that it's not as stable when clipped to a hoop. It wobles around and I'm constantly repositioning it (when I use it). If you clip it to a scroll frame or qsnap frame it's much more solid and doesn't more around so it's easier to use. I like the fact that I can position the lens and the light separately. The light also has a couple of settings so you don't have to have it too bright if you don't want to. I got mine from 123stitch.com. I think it takes a couple of AAA batteries. My batteries are dead so I need to replace them so I could check when I do.

I use a Daylight Magnifying lamp which is on sale now online at their store. I don't know where you live, but that would be good for the US and I'm sure there are similar lamp/magnifiers other places. Its an LED light so it doesn't get hot. Also can be a table lamp as well as a floor lamp (which I use). I learned about it here on the forum and have loved it eversince I got it.

I use one of these along with a light. I found this let me move around and not have to work in one spot to be under the light. I borrowed my brothers (he works on trains, with tiny parts) when I was stitching one evening and fell in love with them. He came home from the Harbor Frieght ( tool store) with one for me, he was tried of sharing his, because I wouldn't give them back very often. They come with 4-5 different lenses and the little light on the visor. They were less than $20.00. Has made a world of difference.
