Thanks. I'm lucky that I've always been a quick learner when it comes to things I can wrap my head around/have a knack for.

It's been awhile since I've done an update. My finger has healed up so I celebrated by giving some tatting a go again.

Image

The blue and purple in the lower left was my first attempt with the Lizbeth size 20 thread and it didn't go too well, as you can see. The lower right is my latest attempt using the Lizbeth thread and it came out great. the attempts go: 1 3 5 in the top row, 2 4 6 in the bottom row. Number 5 was the first attempt with a size 10 crochet thread.

After not having practiced for a few weeks, I think I've done pretty well getting back into the hang of it. Definitely looking forward to doing some more. I keep defaulting to these flowers, but it's a lot easier to keep practicing with something I know how to make than to learn a new pattern. I think after a few more, when I can get consistent results on these, then I will venture into trying something new again.

I checked out a couple tatting books from the library and am looking forward to trying out some of the patterns they have in it.

Thanks everyone. :) I've found quite a few lovely colors to work with, and the Lizbeth threads are a pleasure to work with. As are the size 10 crochet threads. I'm really starting to dislike the perle cottons for tatting as they just don't have as smooth a texture as the other threads. Fortunately I can turn around and use them for hardanger when I get around to giving it a go.

I agree. I especially love the ones that are made with the variegated threads.

One of my friends just bought them all off of me. She makes barrettes and other hair things, and she's going to use them in making some. But I am planning to make some tatted items as christmas presents and not necessarily in the flower shape. Now that I'm getting better at them, I'm going to start branching out into other patterns.

Thank you. :) I'm planning to give the mustache design another go, this time with the size 10 thread instead of the #5 perle cotton. I think it might go more smoothly with the thinner thread.

Also, I recently got a very small crochet hook for pulling the thread through already made picots, and it makes things much easier than trying to pull it through using the tip of the tatting needle.
