Christmas ornaments first one finished

Post by JazzeyBear »

I started stitching my Christmas ornaments yesterday for about half an hour. I think I'm in love with evenweave. I'm stitching all of these 2 over 2 on 28 count evenweave. I'm still working on counting the stitches away from the ones I've already stitched, but I think I've got the hang of it.

Not finished yet, but the letter is finished

This is one of the two B's that I have to stitch.

Nicely done!!! :applesauce:

I'm pretty new to evenweave, too, and I just love it. Like you, I've found that it's easier to count from an established stitch, than to wander off.
As long as I remember to count to 2, I'm usually ok. :)

Do you have a pic of the completed design?

I don't have a finished design per say. I'm working out of my alphabet book and doing personalized ornaments. I have a picture of the first 3 letters that come in the book to give you an idea.

I'm subbing the french knots for black seed beads (the eyes) and gold seed beads. I should be finished with the first one pretty soon, including back stitching. I'm going to wait until the end to add the seed beads, since I'm stitching them all at one time on one piece of evenweave.

:applesauce: I love the Santa letters. They will make beautiful ornaments! And you are doing a great job with the even weave. I am also fairly new to 25 and 28 ct even weaves stitching over 2 (I didn't know the afghans were an 18 ct even weave until Mabel looked at a pic and told me, but it's over 1 so the counting is much easier) and it takes me a while to get my brain to see two threads as one space, if that makes sense.
Can't wait to see your updates on this.

Thanks everyone! And I have to count three holes for one stitch. It's weird for me to even explain it. But it's working out pretty well. And you guys don't have to wait too long for an update because I finished stitching the first one, minus the seed beads, and he looks a little weird without his eyes.

I have the fabric for the backs, and the cord for the edging but forgot to pick up ribbon, so I guess I'll take another trip to Joanne's tomorrow afternoon and pick out some ribbon, even though I don't want to (like anyone is going to believe that one). Hopefully nothing else jumps into my hands while I am there (not like I don't have a gift card from my sister that she got me for my birthday waiting to be spent).

I agree completely, about how good this looks and about wishing you well on your shopping tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. I finally had time to go to Joann's and pick up ribbon. So I have my backing, my cord, and my ribbon.
