I tried a new way of laying out lettering/script

Post by mig-3 »

I don't have a pattern making program and I'm too lazy to sit and manually hash out the lettering for a design. BUT, I'm modding a pattern and need to insert completely different lettering. Here's what I did.

I measured the rectangular area, in stitches, into which my lettering needed to fit. I marked the area on XS tracing graph paper. (Available from the Yarn Tree and other online shops.)

I wrote my lettering in a script font in Microsoft Word and printed it out. I resized it on the copy machine at work to properly fit in the outlined area of my graph paper. (You could do the same without a copy machine by adjusting the font size on your computer. I'm too cheap to waste the ink.)

I then aligned the copy under my tracing paper. I penciled in the lettering and that's it. I had a custom lettering pattern in a nice script.

Who's first to tell me it's an old trick? :)

Great going Jarvis.

I would not have thought of using a photocopier to resize it to fit I would just have spent the time redoing by hand.

BTW you can get graph paper via Google. I find it's easier than chasing down a stationary store with some.

Looking forward to seeing some pics of it stitched up.

Don't know if it's old but that's how I've always done it ... I'm too stupid to try and fit the letters otherwise: just let the copier do it for me.
