Hello everyone

Post by Spark »

Hi all. My name is Melissa. I am 35 years old from South Carolina. I came across this site while trying to figure out how to use beads in my cross-stitch. I look forward to meeting some new folks and maybe exchanging some ideas, patterns and seeing what everyone is working on.

This is the picture that the beads are used in. The red background (it looks pink to me but the pattern calls for red) is entirely beads. I was researching how to use the beads when I found you folks. I usually try to avoid using materials I'm not familiar with, but I think I'm going to give this a try.

Good for you trying something new :applesauce: ! What an interesting design, really unusual -- is it for a special occasion?

In a way a large area of beads will be easier because they'll keep each other snug, but you'll have to go for good quality beads to make sure they fit neatly together; I got some cheap beads off eBay to see whether I liked beading, and they're fine for the occasional beady bird's eye, or a sparkly accent, but they are uneven both in bead size and hole size, so when I did a picture of a cross for my church I invested in some Mill Hill beads, and they were much nicer and easier to work with than the bargain beads!

Hi Melissa and welcome from California. If you're looking for answers and suggestions, you've found the right place. Chances are someone here has already encountered your particular situation or knows of someone who did and there are answers galore around here. Lots of helpful advice and encouragement to keep you going even on the most difficult of projects. This group is also the most friendly people I've ever met. Don't be shy and nervous about asking questions, we all do and so far I've never once felt embarrassed or stupid for any of my questions. The advice and answers were always given with the utmost respect and sincerity. This is a very special group of stitchers here and good people to boot. I hope you'll feel right at home. You may be holding the very answer someone else is looking for. :D

And welcome from the West of Scotland. What an unusual design! And Mabel is absolutely correct about beads: pays to buy the best, or else you end up chucking lots away, so no savings in the end. Anyway, hope you stick around, and put your work in the SAL thread so we can cheer you on.
