Inventory?
I've been looking into how is the best way to record what threads I have but I'm struggling to think of the best method. I was wondering if anyone else does this?
If so, what system do you use?
Thanks in advance for any help
p.s I wasnt sure what category this fitted into.

Re: Inventory?
We have had quite a few discussions on this, but not a problem to revisit it. If you also want to look back at some, this is one on Stash inventory and this is one about the X Stitcher app for smart phones (also works on iPods and iPads - don't know about other tablets). I have that on my iPod and probably need to get the data over to my iPhone (just got one and so the app is empty). As long as I keep it current this is the best way for me to keep track of what threads I have and what I need. There are probably lots of other things out there too if you do a google search. Probably new and improved ones since last year. It all depends on what will work best for you. Kind of like cross stitching in general.

Re: Inventory?
Sorry, I mustn't have searched for the right word. I couldn't think of what to call it. Don't suppose you've used the Cross Stitch guild app on itunes?
I'll check out the threads and I'll give google another go see if I can find anything.
Thanks for your advice

I haven't seen that app. Off to iTunes to check it out. I'm starting to get addicted to apps which is not a good thing, I think.

Re: Inventory?
I have the cross stitch guild app on my phone and it's great. You can enter which threads you need and which ones you have got (DMC, Anchor, Madeira). It'll convert thread colours and it'll also work out how much fabric you need if you enter the stitch count of the pattern and the count of the fabric. Plus there's a stitch library of specialist stitches. I use the app all the time. You can also enter what kits and books etc you have, but it's not as user friendly as I haven't found a way of arranging the info in an order that makes sense to me.
I also have an excel spreadsheet of exactly what I have in my stash. It covers quite a few pages

Does it have metallics on the cross stitch guild?
What is Panda Hobby? Is it an itunes App?
I just found a link to them excel wordsheets that was posted on one of the other topics, I think I will alter that for my needs then email it to myself to put it on my ipad.

Emmylou, when I tried to download it my security software warned me that it might be best to delete the file instead of installing it. I was just wanting to ask if you had any issues with the software?Emmylou wrote:No Panda hobby is a program for your laptop/pc. http://www.pandahobby.com/

I'm thinking I might just stick to a simple excel spreadsheet. Its probably easier

Re: Inventory?
That's my method! I have a mammoth cross stitch spreadsheet with worksheets that list all my normal threads (Anchor and DMC) along with my speciality threads, beads and metallics. There is also a sheet that lists my current projects and what threads are used in each one in case I need to steal a bobbin or two. It also contains stitch count tables for each of my current HAED WIPs as well as a list of projects that I have in stash and a wishlist of projects with links which I add to as and when I see I project I would love to have. In fact just about the only thing I don't keep a record of is my fabric stash - but I pretty much know what I have to hand, there is always 28ct available which is my go to fabric.diamondradleylover wrote:I'm thinking I might just stick to a simple excel spreadsheet. Re: Inventory?
A lot of times programs that are not widely used will trigger a warning with your anti-virus. If it gives you the option to see the full details of the warning, you will often find that the reason is due to very few people with that anti-virus program using the program you're downloading. They are warning you as a "better safe than sorry" measure. But what it really comes down to is that they haven't taken the time to verify the program and want to ensure that if the program is malware or a virus you cannot turn around and blame them for letting you download it - they warned you after all.diamondradleylover wrote:Emmylou, when I tried to download it my security software warned me that it might be best to delete the file instead of installing it. Re: Inventory?
I thought that might have been the reason because when I scanned the saved folder with both of my security software no issues arose. I think I'll go and download it because it looked good.geekishly wrote: A lot of times programs that are not widely used will trigger a warning with your anti-virus. I bet that took ages to make! Do you have loads of projects on the go? The ones I've recently started would take a while to type in all the colours because they have 80/90 colours each.Mrs Milkybar Kid wrote:That's my method! Re: Inventory?
It didn't take too long to do - now that it is all set up it only takes a few minutes to add new details. Everytime I get a new HAED chart I just add in the colours needed to my table, apart from the B&Ws most of them have anything from 70 - 90 colours. At the moment I only really have 2 WIPs (in my sig) on the go, as I've recently finished 2 HAED QS so their places in my rotation will be filled with new starts in Jan 2012.

Re: Inventory?
The ONLY thing I inventory is my 15 Pre-Historical Ice Age book authors and Louis La'Mour books(100). On the Ice Age books, I have 2 columns, a HAVE and a NEED from the authors.
As far as my floss is concerned, I just have 3 pale blue 3 ring binders, with ea. thread labeled on the thread pocket. My EXTRA threads are in OTHER containers, and as I FINISH my YEARLY projects, I PLAN for the next years projects, and go thru the pale binders, and RESTOCK from my EXTRA as needed. When I get my supplies for my YEARLY projects, on Black Friday at hobby store, I buy 1 skein of ea. thread to KEEP me supplied.
My sister, who is in a nursing home, does stamped embroidery, since she was 10, now 65, and has LIMITED SPACE, and her thread stash are in those plastic thread bins, in a BIG needle craft tote. She has it organized by COLOR scheme in ea. bin. Reds, Blues, etc.
I have a thread color chart and organized her threads as she has them in EACH plastic bin, by no. On a sheet of paper I labeled it Blue with nos., and taped it to the inside of the lid, so when she opens, it has ALL the Blues in order. Did it to ALL the color schemes.
She has her stamped embroidery patterns in those brown vanilla envelopes with each holiday or occasion written on it. They are stored in a plastic folding V-File, in her BIG needle craft tote. She has her fabric, which I buy and cut into 5" x 5" doubled squares, as she STUFFS her projects, in a plastic child's lunch box. I buy ENOUGH fabric at Christmas for her to do her projects for a year. She does projects for the patients and staff in the nursing home.
HAPPY STITCHING IN STITCHING LAND.
