Just wash it.
Both will soften just by handling but if you wand it softer in the beginning, wash it to take out the sizing.
Make sure it is washable if you have hand dyed fabric. Most can be washed, but it's always best to make sure it's ok.

Alright!! Thanks alot for the info. I will try it. I would like it to be a little softer when I go to stitch on it. Thanks again.

Yep that is all you have to do. I like the stiff new fabric because I prefer my fabric to be very tight in the hoop/q-snap. :D

You are not a loner, while stitching I like the crisp of the stiffer fabric, I wash after to make it softer, but usually as maggie said mine ends us softer just from handling.

I find it's easier to get a good consistant tension if the fabric is stiff. Glad I'm not the only one

Alright !! So stiff it is. :D I will not worry about making the fabric "soft" before stitching on it. I have never worked with Hardanger before, and thought you had to soften it up before you could work on it. Glad to know that I do not have to do that.

Thank you so much everyone :applesauce:

Not at all - I've been known to starch mid project to get the stiffness back.
Myst..
