What a wonderful gift that you received. The only way I could think of matching the unlabeled threads is by very close comparison to those that you have. I would probably end up saving them for projects that were smaller and didn't require an exact color (like an HAED or Joan Elliot or Teresa Wentzler etc etc). That is what I plan to do with the non DMC threads that I received several weeks ago. I'm also keeping the DMC threads in a seperate bobbin container so I can make sure that when I use them the colors match with the ones I already have. Sometimes there is a shade change or maybe its due to age. Some charts it won't matter, but on others it could be a mess.
How nice that they were already bobbinated too.

What a lovely gift from your friend. I agree with Carole, sit down in a good light and try matching them up with any threads you have. If there are some you can't find a match for keep them separately and use for those small motifs and things.

Do you know that DMC publishes shade cards that show all their colours? There are two versions, one printed which is very cheap and one with actual thread samples that costs more.
