Mabel's Song Of The Weather Part 2 April to ?? 2013

Post by Squirrel »

Oh Mabel what are you doing to me - I hate bullion knots and never did get them right, my Grandmother gave up on trying to teach me those.

WOW What a fabulous design - will need to be on top form before I try those knots again.

Wonderful challenge though.  :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce: :applesauce:

Sally, glad you like the look of April; if the bullion knots really really defeat you (and do look at both the stitch photographs and the Mary Corbett video to which I link on the blog) you could always use bugle beads!

I love this design. I am really looking forward to stitching the Greek crosses, they are so pretty. As Sally said, a wonderful challenge.

I've just downloaded the April design.

Wow! Another challenging design!

I'm looking forward to stitching this one.

I found a super You-tube link for Greek crosses as I'm using them in my Hardanger Knot garden.

The site is Spanish but there's no commentary. I found it really helpful.

 I hope you don't mind me posting this link up Mabel!!

I love the look of this design!! So very pretty Mabel!! It does look challenging though. I think this one might have to be done in stages so I don't go batty. :)

Loving the entire SAL Mabel -- amazing!

Wendy, any help with new or challenging stitches is great, so please post as many useful links as you find :-)

Edited:
Just had a quick look, it does show it very well! The only thing is I would probably cover a bit more of the first bar (do one or two more wraps towards the centre) before starting the weave, but that's just the way I happen to like it :-)

 Thanks...didn't want to step on your toes!

I agree with you about the extra wraps.
I'd previously read instructions on how to do this stitch and got totally baffled...thank goodness for video instructions, eh?

I hope you'll all enjoy the Portuguese stitch so much -- it is really 3D and tactile -- that you won't worry about the bullion knots :-)

The new design looks lovely, so I'll be diving in my stash to find appropriate colours for the way April should look...! :?

What a beautiful design for this month. I am looking forward to stitching it sometime this week.

I'm itching to work on another project now that I have working lamp in the livingroom again, but I will hopefully get to this one in a day or two.

Well tnight I was planning on showing off my February all done - wrong!!!

I was going well too and had got to the cutting stage when the dogs set up a howling/yapping/screaming fit - another dog on "their" front lawn. What a performance!! Got them settled and I settled and picked up the hoop with February in it, looked at the chart and got cutting. Next I started to pull threads and discovered

I had cut 1 "corner set" when I shouldn't have!!!!!! GGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

So its all frogged and put aside as a practice piece now. I have got the outer 'ring' of kloster blocks now done and hopefully tomorrow I can make some progress again.

All good practice I am sure. :D :D

BTW should i load a pic of Feb and March in the 'old/previous' thread or this one??? Any ideas Mabel or Rose????

Oh Sally how annoying! And very restrained of you to accept it as a practice piece and not throw your hoop at the dogs

Probably post your pictures here, I think, as the other thread needs closing down. I know it's called "April to ..." but that's just when it was started, so we'd love to see anyone's Januarys, Februarys and Marches here
