I've finally gotten back to this project and have finished the 12th square. It's an American Redstart--not a native of Florida, but it's one that winters here and we see from time to time in the trees and bushes of our property.
Here is what the square looks like
and here is a picture of the entire afghan--the Redstart is the one on the lower right corner
Only 8 squares to do now!!

Love it. I just love this afghan. I also love Redstarts. We see them here also. Have you seen the females also? Yellow. and so pretty also. I know one birder who when he sees a female calls them "Yellowstarts". We used to have a pair that came to our birdbath, but haven't seen them in a while.
Are you planning on a house or purple finch? I have some house finches that come to my bird feeder everyday. and I think I saw a purple finch the other day, but its so hard to tell the difference.
Or are you going to keep it a secret?

Yes, we do see the female, in fact, we usually see her more readily than the male--I so wish they were a year round resident here.
As for the house/purple finch--that is one that is on the bubble--I may end up doing one if I don't ever find a decent mockingbird design--most of the ones of those that actually look nice are way too large for the project. And yes, it IS quite hard to distinguish the difference between house and purple finches. Sadly, we don't usually see either of them visit even in the winter months. But, since we have seen them on the rare occasion, I haven't ruled one of them out just yet

Awww thanks Pattie--excuse the odd thread here and there on it--I wanted to get a decent picture of the entire project and didn't quite get all the errant threads removed

Karen, its gorgeous and so great to see all these lovely birds. I am stuck with parrots/parakeets/butcher birds/minor birds/ crows and ibis around here.
I miss my sparrows, thrushes and black birds as well as the little wax eyes from back home.
Thanks for sharing these Karen.
