:applesauce: pretty update! Did you mean June wasn't as much fun or the sampler as a whole isn't as much fun to stitch as you thought it would be? I think it is a lovely piece and you are doing a great job.

ms carole June was the iaaue not the hope sampler i have enjoyed all other months. this one almost felt like work. plus it isn't easy to tell what it is....which brings me to ms rose yes ma'am itbis a lightening bug bit to me they loom a bit different. i had such high hopest I love lightening bugs and so did my mom so when i was stitching it for June I thought ibmqy be doing it twice once as a quick stitch form sister since her bday idls this month...but to me it isn't a lightening bug...so i won't do it for her maybe my high expectations is what made this not as fun....

I think you are right that it is hard to tell what it is. I couldn't tell, but thought it might just be me . Hope the rest of the months are more fun.

Re: maemae0410's 2013 S-A-L verse opinions please.

Post by stitchingmae »

So I have been a bit summed about the verse that got stained. I had shown the lady the project and she loved it and feared up ai I must either start over or fifish the current one. I can add the background in but really really want to just finish this one. You guys tell me what you think os it okay to finish and give it as is or should I start over or add the background??

Far away view, most will see it, I'll have it framed when I give it to her.

A close up of the grid lines DH says that b/c the fabric is oatmeal colored and has random brown streaks that to him it looks like its he fabric.

And then the dreaded ink stain......
Image

do what do you all think do they stand out to everyone or is it just because I know where they are????

For me I would start it over. I would never be able to give that as a gift to anyone.

The other option would be to put a few more lines in and wash them the same way to see if you could make a few more stains so that it really does look like the fabric was made that way. :thinks:

I agree with Rose and would try making more streaks. Probably I'd start over myself as it is a gift. If I were doing it for myself I'd probably just finish it.

Well just thought I would give you guys a quick update.
We had our first (mini) family vacation this week, DH took some time off but we went during the week so that I would not have to take any time off from work.
Let’s just say this time could have been spent better stitching. I mean we enjoyed ourselves, but we had a lot of bad things happen too LoL
First off the hotel did not have doors that locked from the inside. No one could get in …but C could get out. I realized this when DH had gone out to get the rest of our stuff and I heard the door shut I thought it was him coming in, I asked a question and got no answer came back into the main room and saw that C was no longer in the room…I took off out the door to find him toddling up the hallway saying “da da” lol looking for his da da They also touted all you can eat omelets and waffles as their complimentary breakfast with a picture of a chef with a hat cooking…it was one girl with a hot plate and a skillet to feed 30ish people and two waffle irons and batter left out in the open for the waffles.

Connor then started teething and when he teethes he is off the chain, oh man that kid nothing could make him happy, then when I did give him medicine to help he slept and didn’t really enjoy anything anyway…
Two days before we left I had hit the car with the garage door, DH gave me a really hard time about this, well…the last day of vacation…heading home in fact he backed into a pole.

We had more fun at a little hole in the wall arcade with kiddie rides than anything thing else…and I did find an REALLY REALLY AWESOME LNS called Dixie Darlin they also have an online store….The customer service was great and the stitch models were to die for!! I spent way too much money in there while my hubby made rounds in and out with my son, keeping him entertained. We did stop at a smaller store in Townsend on the way home called the needlework cottage. The staff there wasn’t as plesant or didn’t seem to know as much about cross stitch as the other one, the other one was more cross stitch oriented while this one was a general needlecraft store. I did get a quick lesson in tatting which just confused me even more about the craft. LoL
While at the first store, I got a Masonic pattern to do for my dad since he is a mason, I did not get the stuff to start the project there, but did get the stuff at the second place, but instead of getting the kreinik blending filament I accidently got the #4 “very fine braid” and to be completely hones I like the coverage better than I do with the blending filament.

Image

What do you all think?? I have since ordered the other two colors of braid from crazy annies on bonanza LOVE her store all wholesale pricing!!!!

Now for more stitch related things. I got the fabric to restart skitzzzz verse….and attempted using the fishing line for the gridding….no go not even halfway through I gave up and used the marker, just going to be CERTAIN that I RINSE before Wash

here is a newer family photo since it has been a while
Image

oh and i bruised my tail bone on a super slide while playing on the kiddie rides with the family LoL

Your Woodland Sampler is gorgeous. I'm new here and may have missed who was the designer?
Your son is so sweet too but yikes the motel door handle issue was a bit weird. Whoever designed that obviously didn't think it through. Sorry your holiday had a few down spots, hope life picks up and you find lots of stitching time.

Hi there! Just skimmed through your thread and saw your fabric marker woes - have you considered dyeing the finished piece just a couple of shades darker? You could use some weak tea and soak it for a while, then rinse.. it might darken the fabric just enough to make the lines vanish.

I'd suggest trying it out on a scrap piece where you've deliberately caused yellow lines to appear to see if it works. If it seems to make the lines fade a bit but not completely, then do it a second time... I'd suggest doing it multiple times with a really weak tea, rather than all at once with a strong tea so you have better control of how dark it ends up. Also, it is easier to get a smooth finish with weak tea, rather than a mottled finish with a stronger one. Though in this case a slightly mottled finish might also help to distract from the lines, and make a lovely background!

Glad that y'all survived the vacation! It seems to me that some vacations are made to be remembered years later  at least a few that I have been on! Sounds like you had some scary moments (as in C looking for his Daddy) and some fun times too. Hope your tail bone has healed. Not a great place for a bruise.

Great start on your new piece. What color fabric is that? I love the way the blue stitching sparkles!

First of all, your stitching is so neat and perfect looking. I'm still working on getting my stitches to lay so nicely.

I don't post much on the boards but just wanted to say that I love Dixie Darlin. If anyone is in the area of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge or Townsend, please go by there. The shop is nice and the folks who run it are even nicer. We go to that area usually every year, and it's always one of my favorite things to do. I always get carried away with purchasing but love spending the time until my next trip stitching up my goodies.

maemae, I didn't mean to go overboard on your post but I was so thrilled to see my favorite shop on this board.

Glad i'm not the only one :) When I first pulled the thread off I said oh no...i go the wrong stuff we had just really gotten on the road my husband said..."we aren't going back" lol. I said well I can try....and then I loveed it, I am stitching on 14 count and using 2 ply floss and one ply braid... 18count I would probably only use one ply of each....

I've never even thought of using it as a blended thread--I've only used it alone, usually in Joan Elliott's designs. The only bad thing about the braid versus the blending filament, is that there is far less of it! I must say, that it looks great in your stitching!! :applesauce: :applesauce:
