What type of frame to use for a very large project

Hello! I have only been stitching for a couple of years and I'm about to tackle my first very large project. As far as frames go, what would be the best way to stitch a project that is 25''x32''? Originally I was going to get 27'' bars for my scroll frame but now I'm thinking that may be crazy. I should mention that I do have an Edmunds stand that would be able to accomodate the large scroll frame. Thanks in advance for the suggestions!

I'd use a scroll frame 8} I haven't done one quite that big yet but I've worked on projects much bigger which were in scroll frames, they've always been on floorstands (helping out a friend).

Thank you for your suggestions. If I use a scroll frame, do you think 27'' is wide enough for a 25'' project? The widest that my Edmunds stand can hold is a 27'' frame. This project is going to take me years!! I'm so excited to begin it, but I know it's going to be a long process. I'm a convert to the Millenium Frame. You could get 30" scroll bars for it, and have plenty of room. I don't know about how it will work with your stand though. But it will hold your fabric perfectly for it!

That will not fit on a 27 inch bars

Can you use a different count fabric

Reta, how did you calculate that? I'm self taught so half the time I feel like i have no idea what I'm doing! The website said it was 25'' by 32'' on 18 count. I'm doing the "sense of hearing" lady with a unicorn...

Oh I see, Reta! You were calculating it with a 3 inch border. I was thinking I'll have to just do a 1'' border so it will fit on my Edmunds stand which only holds up to a width of 27''. Would a small 1'' border be a really bad idea?

The number of stitches is 450 x 581. If you divide these numbers by the count of your fabric -- which is 18 -- then you get the actual size of the design -- which is 25 x 32 inches. Add 3 inches to each side and you get Reta's calculation.

Adding several inches of fabric to all four sides is generally recommended. Some people add a minimum of 2 inches, I usually try to add 3 inches just because you never know how the fabric will behave (will it fray?), and it gives extra options for finishing, too.

You still might be able to use your scroll frame, but it would mean folding in several inches on each width side to fit the frame. I've done this before now. It does work. The only drawback is that the scroll doesn't hold quite as tightly as it did before.

However! If you possess QSnaps, you can use the long clips to make up for any slack.

I may just have to fold the sides under like you suggested. Though I've never used Q snaps and don't know much about them at all. Would I be able to use them with my stand?

I don't know where you are in the world. QSnaps are easily available in the US, but in the UK a similar product is produced by R & R Craft Frames. All I can say is that they work on my common-or-garden scroll frame. I presume you need to add a frame of some sort to your rather wonderful looking stand?

QSnap clips are a bit smaller than R&R clips. Don't suppose you have a pal with QSnaps from whom you could borrow a clip to check... Anyway, my fudge will work without any help, so you're ok either way.

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions! They have been quite helpful. I think for me, the most economical decision would be to just purchase 27'' stretcher bars (the maximum width that my stand will hold) for my scroll frame, and fold 1'' of my 2'' border under before attaching it to the frame.

I've folded over sides with no trouble, the only issue might be that when you get to the end or the side it might get a bit baggy. But I solve this by getting some dungaree clips (crocodile clips) and tying them to the side bars with ribbon and it pulls it taut.
