What I really like about it is that it is so quick -- practically instant gratification :-). Depending on how much stitching time you have, these little ones just take a couple of evenings. And you can use small lengths of hand-dyeds for them, I use them to try out new colours to see if they stitch up as nicely as they look on the skein :-)

Mable, when you use silks such a Caron Waterlilies, how many strands do you use to have nice coverage? I just joined the SOTW SAL :D and am very new to hardanger. I only have a couple of the silks and want to make sure I'm using it correctly so as to not waste any. :)

Ainjel, you use them pretty much as you would stranded cotton :-)! Waterlilies is 12-stranded, but the individual strands are about the same thickness as strands of DMC or Anchor.

In some of the stitches, by the way, you could choose to use one strand instead of 2, to show the structure more clearly (for example the woven squares in January), whereas with other stitches using fewer strands would make the texture less noticeable (for example in Rhodes stitches -- with one strand you wouldn't get the height in the centre)

Hope that helps -- enjoy your beautiful silks! (which colours did you get?)

Thank you Mable :) I have Caron Waterlilies:
Pistachio Nut
Sandstone
Rose Quartz
Nefertiti
and I have 2 of the Snow by Caron
I have had them quite awhile, I occasionally crochet mini teddy bears and I got them long ago for that, but now, they are devoted to hardanger :D

Here is my version of Blackthorn.

Confession time.
This is my second piece, I made a mistake on the cutting and emailed Mabel for advice, which she promptly supplied, making a couple of very good suggestions. Closer inspection revealed that I had done some of the wrapped bars as double and some woven so I decided to start again.

The only changes are the extra eyelets in the centres of the blossoms and a different colour for the doves eyes as it is my interpretation of Poppies.

I found it a bit difficult ( more fiddly ) stitching the doves eyes separately from the wrapped bars.
The first piece I stitched I have kept to practice stitching them with the wrapping, so I don't feel this was wasted.
It is stitched on 25ct Cream Lugana with DMC Perles #5 - 321 and #8 - 310, 360 and 367

I intend to stitch it again, possibly three times to represent other flowers and then mount them in one frame.

Thank you Mabel for an inspiring design.

:applesauce: :applesauce: Beautiful work, Louise. Stitched in different colors to represent different flowers is a great idea. I'm looking forward to seeing your posts on these as well.

It's gorgeous, and they really look remarkably poppy-like!

And I've already written this to Louise, but working different-coloured dove's eyes in double wrapped bars is fiendishly difficult so :applesauce: :applesauce: for getting it done so successfully!

:applesauce: :applesauce: Inspiring Louise and so lovely and bright too. Well Done.

Mabel    your #3/1 its gorgeous. I really must get back to hardanger pieces - just have to find some more hours in the daylight somehow. Maybe I should go spend the summer in the northern hemisphere and so have more stitching time. :thinks:

I've not done a lot of proper stitching this week because of The Finger, but I have done some finishing; perhaps it's a good thing I can't stitch very well because it forces me to get on with the finishing :-)!

I did finish stitching Badges 1 and 3, but unfortunately I did them on scraps of fabric so I worked them in hand, not in a hoop, and one especially has become terribly puckered :-(. I flattened them under some heavy books and will try ironing them today in the hope of rescuing them. Pictures as and when they have been rescued.

I'm still working on some of the finishing items, and they'll turn up in the Gallery in due course, but here are a few sneak previews :-)

Well, the first is not a preview really, it's just a birthday card I made from one of the Happy Hours I stitched. I found just the right colour card in my stash!

Image

And here is one of the Festive Cheer motifs, mounted in a pair of foam flowers. I cut a circle out of the top one, glued it all together, and because it looked a bit bare I added some sequins. If I'd thought of it earlier I would have sewn them on before glueing so the threads would have been invisible. Oh well, I'll know better next time :-)

Image

This is one of the foam notebooks, with Three of Diamonds 2 attached to it. I did in fact just stick it on, but you could use the sequins to attach it; the foam is really easy to sew through.

Image

And finally an unfinished finish -- can you guess what this will be part of :-)?

:applesauce: What lovely finishes! I hope that The Finger heals soon so that you can stitch much more easily. Its definitely not the best way to stitch, if you have a :bandaid: to deal with (I've been wanting to use that smilie, but am sorry it was due to your injury :( )

Thank you all for the kind words and encouragement.
I've been gardening all morning and every flower I look at I'm thinking hardanger.

Glad the :bandaid: hasn't stopped you altogether Mabel. The birthday card is lovely and those notebooks would be great as small gifts.
Can't imagine what the beaded Mabel is for - a badge perhaps ?
