Fray check. Will eventually try my sewing machine but
I can't sew straight enough yet to attmept this
I used the clear medical tape once and had a complaint from my framer, he couldn't get the glue off and had to steam it several times for it to lay correctly

Re: hoe do you bind the edge of your fabric?
I sometimes leave the edges if its a small item, masking tape sometimes, fraycheck other times!!
Aida I tend to leave it as once in the frame it doesn't tend to fray that much.
With evenweave Now I have a sewing machine I stitch the edges, but I've not yet figured out the zig zag button so just do a straight stitch and it works fine! It's definitely something worth doing even though it also just stays in the frame.

I have tried the masking tape but it leaves my edges sticky and when I pull it off then it takes loads of 'frays' with it. I was advised to use the fraycheck but since I cannot find any here I just mod-podge the edges and leave to dry. It works a treat for me and has solved many cross stitching nightmares.
