Fabric markers and pens and pencils

Post by thegrindre »

Hi all,
I don't actually want to grid out the pattern on my material but I would like to make a few key marks at various places across my aida.
BUT, I need it to be washable. Water soluble is key with one of these.
What would you recommend for a marking pen or pencil?

Thank you,
Mr. Rick

I am sorry I do not have a brand name but I bought a fabric pen at Jo-ann's about 4 years ago. I use it to mark the middle of my project or if on the rare occasion I start in the corner I will mark the outside edges. It is a purple pen and disappears over a few weeks. I have never had an issue with it not fading.

havent tried it yet as I just ordered it, but I have heard great things about it.

so far I have been gridding with sewing thread, it does the trick so long as I dont split it with my needle

I got mine at Hobby Lobby. It is called Mark-B-Gone and has a washable blue marker on one end and a disappearing purple marker on the other. I tested both before I used them and am very pleased.

I've used both. I never had any problem with the markers coming out of my fabric. I use a mechanical pencil now. I bought it in the sewing section at my local Joann's store. It has three different colors for the lead, pink green and white. And it has an eraser on the end. It's cheaper for me to buy the lead refills than to buy a new marker every time I wanted to start a project.

This is what it looks like

WOW! I really like the idea of 'vanishing ink'.
I'll look into that one. :applesauce:

Thanks,
Mr. Rick

I have also been experimenting with the Pilot Fuxion pens. They are erasable using the end of the pen, but thanks to another member of this forum, I learned their marks can be erased with the heat from a hair dryer.

The Mark-B-Gone is easier to use on fabric, but the Pilot pens are going to be useful, also, including on charts. I got the Pilots at Office Depot.

I found one of these at Wally World. The two headed kind by Dritz.
