Posting to Australia

Post by Stephaniejane91 »

Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anybody could help!

I went to my post office today to post a small card but they weren't open for some reason! I am unsure about posting to Australia as I've never done it before.

I assume they will need to weight it and then I will pay for the postage, however my boyfriend said that I can make the cost up of the postage by sticking extra stamps on the envelope.

I just wondered if he is right? I have looked online but nothing is really helpful!

Thanks

If all it is is a regular letter that is going then yes you can add 2 stamps and I think a 10 cent stamp and that covers the cost but if it is more then a regular letter....ie if it is bulky or longer then a business envelope then you would have to weigh it. And if they are jerks like my post office they may also make you fill out a custom's form. I send pictures one time so I marked do not bend on the envelope and even though it was not bulky or oversized they made me fill out the form........ :tantrum: I do not care for our post office counter staff they are rude.

Thanks Rose,

It is just a small card so I will probably just do that and hope its gets there!

That is awful service, I would have complained for sure!

Where I live the postman has a very bad habit of not posting packages through my door or even knocking to see if anyone is in! so annoying as then we have to wait 24 hours to go and see if its at the depot and half the time it isn't!

I feel like the US Postal service feels as if they have absolutely no accountability for what happens to your mail or packages. It may just be the branches I've had to deal with, but they never seem to care if they don't do their job right.

Oh I totally agree with you. At least once a week we get letters for someone elses address and when you point it out to the Post Master he makes excuse for the carriers. I could see it if it was only once or twice a year but not every week.

Well that's in store for us all in the UK, Royal Mail is going to be privatised. It'll probably be a bit better even for city foil, but us rural peeps are going to have it much harder. Our local posties are wonderful, but although we have a tiny PO that is open for 2 hours two mornings a week, we generally have to go all the way to town and queue for ages at a big, understaffed PO.

I hope your postcard/letter gets to Australia ok, it's generally quite straightforward.

I recieved a large envelope marked do not bend, it had registration documents for my dog in it. instead of giving me a parcel pick up notice like I get with everything else that doesn't fit in the mail box, they folded it in half and stuffed it in the box. the papers were a mess. :tantrum:

my uncle worked for canada post for a while, he tells me that they dont pay attention to notes like "fragile" "this side up" or "do not bend" :tantrum: aggravating for sure! since hearing that if its at all fragile I send it parcel post with lots of stuffing to pad the box

That is shocking! Why do people have to do thing like that?

I managed to get it sent off first class for only £1.28! Bargain! X
