Thinking of you all today Carole and sending a prayer that you and your family will have David up and doing everything he has planned, very soon. A for you at a difficult time.
Thank you all sooooooo much. David is delighted that there are people all over the world thinking and praying for him to have a swift recovery. He was a real trooper! Even though he was scared, he was making jokes during the pre-op stage and listened very closely to the surgeon and anesthesiologist when they explained the details to him. The big question is when can he eat a hot dog? pizza? and go to his sister's so we can all go to see The Lone Ranger. Surgery went really well.
They also repaired a small hernia he had and removed the diseased section of his colon. (sorry about the details). Once he got to his room, he was still groggy of course and in some pain, but kept saying he didn't want the pain medicine. Finally Judy, his sister, was able to convince him that he wasn't going to have another shot and I left right after the nurse gave the pain med because it was clear he was going to be able to sleep. The hard part is going to come when he isn't in pain, is feeling better and thinks he can do whatever he wants. I would guess that he will be able to go home in a few days, unless something awful happens. I won't feel perfectly at ease until he is proclaimed well, but the odds for that get better and better every hour.
I'm going to enjoy my stitching time tonight. Will be the best tonic for me.
Now I'm going to check in on all the beautiful things you have updated and posted today. That is a treat also.

Hope I'm not overdoing it, but thought I'd give you a quick report on David. He had a hard night since they weren't able to give him much pain medication because it effects his oxygen levels. He is hurting today and kept asking when the doctor was going to take the rest out? Not sure what the confusion is, but it was worrying him some. Nearly all the incisions have healed up. Truly amazing what they can do now. Still, he can only have broth and jello and he isn't happy about that at all. His sense of humor is still there, but not quite as good as yesterday. Again to be expected. If everything progresses as it should, and David does the things he is supposed to (like breathing in the breathing tube so that his lungs stay clear) and finishing the broth etc so he can move on to more solid foods, he could be discharged on Sunday. that happens.
Thank you all for listening.

I'm so sorry I didn't see this post until now (went to bed early ill) but I'm sending lots of retrospective prayers, and lots more get well soon prayers now.
In all my operations the day you wake up is ok, it's the next day and the day after that are harder, the pain meds work less, your body comes out of shock and aches all over nd the anaesthetic is crawling out of your pores. Quite horrid. Reassure him he'll feel better really soon.
Am still thinking of you all,Carole, even though I am inactive on th forum at the moment.I hope, like everyone, that David is getting better each day and his discomfort is getting less
Just a brief update. I didn't go to the hospital today since I have developed a terrible cold and cough.
I'm gonna blame it on stress. But I certainly didn't want to give David (or anyone) a cold. Talked to him and to his mom several times and he is doing so much better today. Real food and walking and though he was very tired this morning he has been in a much better mood. He might be being discharged tomorrow which would be wonderful. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers and support. It is so hard to come home and worry. I wish I had known about this place 3 years ago when my husband became ill. Hopefully it will be a long time before I have to call on you for the extra prayers. David is delighted that he has had an international effort wishing him "Get Well"
