Lugana vs. Linen?

Post by starshine123102 »

So I know that Lugana is an evenweave and Cashel is a 28 count linen, but which do you think would be easier to stitch this design on?

I'm tempted to say that because there is so much backstitch lettering that using an evenweave might be a smidge less tedious than linen.

Counting the days until PIP's Christmas in July sale!!

If you aren't used to doing larger projects on linen, I think Lugana would be easiest, but that really is an individual comfort level issue. I have never done larger projects on linen, but have enjoyed smaller ones on it. I am also somewhat biased :-) because I am especially fond of stitching on Lugana (and Jobelan, another of my faves).

I love the design!

I have to be honest and say i have stitched on Linen and liked it even fractional stitches were ok as i was doing over 2 but then having found Laguna i would never go back the laguna seems so smooth and soft in relation and its lovely and even that stitching on it for me is just a dream
I believe Laguna is normally 25 count but have heard there is a 28 count version as well but the name escapes me at the moment I am sure some one on here can tell you.

I have done both and my favorite is Lugana as well as Jobelan. Cashel linen is great for some designs but there is an uneven thickness of the threads in linen sometimes. Evenweave are smooth and even thickness and beautiful. I have been stitching on 28 ct Lugana due to my eyesights.

Thanks!

fccs, I currently stitching a rather large design on a linen and the unevenness doesn't bother me....usually.

I think i'm going to go with the laguana since I want everything to be nice and smooth and even with the lettering.

I don't think linen would be that much harder and it would look smashing on a linen ... the uneveness would add to the jagged design edge.

One more thing to consider is that linen takes colours better than lugana so if your looking for a hand dyed piece in a specific colour sometimes it's better to go with a linen.

Just my two cents, for something like that, I'd do it on linen. On things that show a lot of the fabric in the field of the design, I like stitching on linen because the unevenness gives it nice visual interest.
Whatever you decide to do it on, it'll be awesome. That design is really cute.
