She is looking great! Beautiful stitching, and love the batting needle minder idea.

It's been a busy couple of months and I barely had any time to do any stitching.
But now I'm back on track with this pattern again... here's the latest update..

I'm really enjoying watching all the lanterns emerge in the background!

Re: HAED - Kimono Lantern Mermaid QS - Updated 9/5/13
I know I just posted a pic a few days ago.. but I've been stitching like a woman posessed the last few days. I might have stitched so long last night that I realized all of a sudden that the sun was coming up!
The results of all this stitching?

I've reached the bottom right corner! This felt like a major accomplishment because now I can see as I work how much more I have to go rather than just seeing a never ending expanse of fabric. It also makes it easier for me to plan which parts to stitch next - as can be seen in the photos (especially if you scroll through all the older ones.. click the image above and take a look) I don't follow the 10x10 grid most of the time even though I park.. instead I follow the shape of the items in the image so that I might sometimes be working on a section just 5 stitches across and at other times 30 stitches.. but it makes for fewer starts and stops because if a color is used right by a grid line for afew stitches and then used a lot more later on in the next column, I just leave it all till then. It also means that I have very few vertical lines of stitches, so the risk of visible lines in my finished piece is virtually non-existant.. even when I do follow the grid, I try to make a slightly jagged edge with a few stitches going across the line here and there.
I am getting awfully tempted to work my way all around the edges of the piece and get that last corner that remains too, and then do things backwards and stitch inwards towards the center of the piece. I wonder if by doing that it will be easier to keep my starts/finishes at the front by aways starting them towards the center.. and then finishing the piece in an area that is mostly a single color so that I minimize that threads on the front, making it easier to finish off the very last thread... It's something to think about atleast!

I does feel great when you reach a landmark like the bottom corner!
Loving the colours and the progress - but how on earth do you manage with all those dangling threads? It would drive me insane(er)!

Wow you've stitched so quickly!
And the colours are gorgeous, it must be very enjoyable to stitch.

Re: HAED - Kimono Lantern Mermaid QS - Updated again! 9/8/13
Another week, another update!

Once I reached the bottom, I flipped the piece as well as my chart upside down and started working from the bottom of the piece upwards to meet the area that is already completed. Why? I'm not exactly sure.. other than I had so many theads already in work from parking that I didn't want to finish off when I could just park them at the bottom of the piece and flip over to keep working.
I'm going to work on this a little more to finish up the section I'm on (that small blue lantern that isn't fully filled in yet, and the area around it) and then may put this aside for the ornament I'm making for the swap we have going on the board. Though I really want to keep stitching!
