Brands of floss?

Post by ChristiG »

I'm sorting through all my aunt's threads and updating her organization system. What a job! Anyway, most threads are DMC, which is what I've used in the past. There are some JPCoats, a number of Anchor, and some Sullivans. They must be on a different numbering system from DMC though. What do I do with these? Is there a conversion chart? Are the other brands for different projects somehow? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Christi! Google will be your friend here! DMC, Anchor (including JP coats) and Sullivans all have their own numbering system but there are plenty of conversion charts out ther including here for DMC and Anchor and here for Sullivans and DMC. I've never stitched with Sullivans but have converted DMC to Anchor and vice versa for projects. Bear in mind that particularly between DMC and Anchor there are not always exact matches as there are more colours in the DMC range than Anchor - so sometimes the same Anchor colour will be given for several DMC shades.

If you are someone (like me) who is happy to swap threads and colours in charts, particularly for smalls like cards and ornies - then your non DMC threads will have plenty of use!

Thank you! That is very helpful. Fortunately for me, most everything is DMC.

I could kick myself though. I already gave away a bunch of skeins that I weren't sure what they were for. Come to realize NOW, they were DMC silks!
