Another update. I'll probably be updating this one much more often, since it's now my main focus. I just want it finished already! That's still a ways off, but I should have several mini-finishes soon, as I'm almost done with the cross stitching in this "quadrant". Since I'm doing all of the stitching on this section at once, instead of each character individually, I'll have a great opportunity for a before/after shot on the backstitch. Stay tuned!

:applesauce: :applesauce: You are making great progress and each figure is really a little (or large) finish on its own. Love the bright and cheerful colors too!

I love this project, would love to try it myself one day. Humpty up there makes me smile he's awesome. Isn't it amazing how the backstitching just totally lifts a project. Althou it can be tedious doing it.

Finally the bottom left quarter is completely cross stitched! I'm currently in the middle of back stitching, but I'm getting quite bored (read "upset"*) with it, so I'm setting it aside for now and moving on to something else (a.k.a. there will be a new start in my miscellaneous projects thread very soon!).

Anyway, here's the latest update. Hopefully, I will get back to this soon.

*French knots continue to elude me. I'll get one perfect and then the next will be awful. And somehow, when I try putting the needle back through not in the same spot but right beside it, it gets even more messed up. Also, that darned black thread just doesn't want to play nice, even on regular back stitch.

Aww don't get so upset with it, it looks fantastic, and as i said earlier, Humpty Dumpty is just adorable, and all the other characters. I think French knots on Aida is particularly difficult. I've had them done just right, and find they completely disappear, despite going into the same hole, and just off The same hole. Other times they work out just right. On a finer fabric, ie, linen or something, I think they would be okay.

Back stitching is not my favorite, but I try to plow through, enjoying the way it usually makes the design pop. But, I'm also all for moving on to another project for a little while. I am a rather fickle stitcher.

Definitely do take a short break as I can understand how frustrating it must get with so much detail in it.

You are doing wonderfully well it though and your stitches are so neat and even too. Great going. :D

So I took my short break and then got back to work. Turns out French knots are much easier with a smaller needle. Anyway, the lower left corner is now completely done and I have officially moved the qsnap so I can get started on the lower right corner tonight when I go to my LNS for stitchy time. After this next corner, I'll be halfway done (or actually a bit more than halfway), which will be a wonderful feeling.

Anyway, as promised, here is the before and after shot on the backstitch.

ETA: The baby that this is for is almost here! Her due date is past and they will probably induce soon if she doesn't get moving. :) Her mother (my cousin) doesn't know that I'm making this, but I told my mom that I hope the baby isn't waiting until this is finished. She'd have to wait another couple of months at least!
