Patchwork quilting 22.09.13

Post by Arianwen »

Well I subscribed to the new magazine, the Art of quilting when it first came out but I'm only just getting around to sewing the quilt patches now. I've prepared a large number of the templates for the pieces ready, and more are waiting to be covered with sticky back plastic to make them last - I've already stuck the paper to card.

The magazine is just coming to the end of its run now so hopefully I'll progress fairly quickly.

I am planning on hand sewing each patch, rather than machine sewing it.

Here are my first 11 patches (10 unique patches, and one duplicated as I bought it in the shops then got it as part of my subscription)

If anyone is interested, the patches left to right are (and this is the order in which they appeared/were stitched:

Double four patch
Whirlwind (which I accidently did back to front - I cut the fabric the wrong way so I had to try and figure out how to stitch it together - the spokes should be pointing the other way)
Sailboat
Shoo-Fly
Trafalgar
Windmill
Chequer Square
Diamond square
Cactus Pot
Sawtooth Star

My piecing in the more complicated blocks leaves something to be desired - the seams sometimes don't match up, and occasionally I have to unpick the whole block and start again, but my seams are becoming more consistent and it is easier to stitch in a straight line.

I am enjoying this so far and it is nice to learn and refine my sewing skills

very nice!! I want to learn quilting. I made a few log cabin blocks several years ago for a fundraiser, and I took a quilting class two years ago. The quilt pieces are mostly cut out, but that's about it. But they are tucked away in a box so when I am ready to tackle it again, everything's all together.
