hi!!

Post by chatwitkat »

I just wanted to say hi! I'm Kathryn, I live in Virginia. I'm 25, and my mom taught me to sew. I have been cross stitching for years. Also, I am scared of linen and evenweave.

I've been lurking for some time, and I'm a chicken haha. I live about 15 min away from West Virginia (greenbrier hotel that hosts the PGA golf tournament) I'm an hour and half southwest from Waynesboro. Small world!

Hello from Colorado.

Don't be afraid of linen and evenweave. Linen might be a bit more challenging, but with quality fabric, both are easy and give beautiful results. When you get ready to make the jump, you'll find lots of encouragement and tips here.

 Hello and welcome from South Carolina! I'm so glad that you have decided to stop lurking. I hope that you will feel comfortable enough to post some pictures of your work. Lots of members don't like evenweaves and prefer to stitch on aida and they have produced some exceptional pieces.
I didn't knowingly stitch on evenweave until I joined the forum and it is now my favorite fabric type. I've done a little on linen, but it depends on what type of linen, but there are some real experts here who will be able to encourage and guide you through it. What types of designs do you like to stitch?

 Hi Kathryn and Welcome from me too. So glad you joined us. Don't be scared of evenweave or linen - they are only a different fabric with holes to put a needle into. :D

I accidentally got a piece of evenweave in a kit that I have replaced. The holes are super little that I couldn't even imagine it. Maybe I'm just spoiled. I used to only stitch on 14 ct. Aida, but have now gotten comfortable with 18 ct.

You're probably right when you say it's "all fabric that the needle goes through", it's just so intimidating.

You guys guided me through French knots and you are invaluable resource!

Most of the stuff that I stitch is Paula Vaughn, Dimensions Gold kits. While pretty, I don't do 'science fiction' type stuff, like mermaids or dragons or fairies... but would total go for an awesome unicorn! I have never done a HAED (nor knew what one was until here, like most), but I would relish the challenge of one, if I could find something that was somewhat realistic or lifelike. Maybe I'm not looking in the right spots?

Pictures? WHY OF COURSE :)

Very nice work!!

Sometimes for the higher count evenweaves and linens, you just need really good lighting and a magnifier to make the stitching easy and enjoyable. The results you get on these fabrics are worth the time it takes getting used to them.

There are lots of more realistic HAEDs. When you first start looking at them it can seem like they are all fantasy related, but there's a decent variety there.
