Has anyone ever stitched a design onto silk fabric? If so, how easy/hard is it and can you give any particular tips or advice? Since joining the forum I've managed to get to grips with various counts of aida and linen but silk would be a new one for me
Many thanks.

I've never used it myself, but Mabel and a few other members have stitched on silk gauze and there are some designers like Erica Michaels that design with it specifically in mind. A search on the forum should turn up people's projects and thoughts on it.

Thank you Amanda. I will have a look online for some pictures of the silk gauze. That's quite some count that it goes up to . I will have a look on the forum and see what I can find.

I used to stitch on silk gauze, it's too fine for my eyes now. I didn't have any problems with it but it really is best to work with a good magnifying glass.
I've stitched on silk ... I found it really hard to work with. I have oily skin and found it marked easily. I also pulled the stitches too tight, causing the material to wrinkle under the stitching. And forget about frogging ... at least I had to, it was simply too fine and too damaged by the time the thread had pulled back out.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound like a pleasurable experience. Thank you for the information Mystonique. I may need to get a sample piece and have a practice to see how I get on.

I'm far from an artist ... I'm less grace and gentleness and more bull in a china shop ... so my experience is likely a lot to do with me not matching the material well. I'm great with linen

Hi again. You haven't put me off at all. It's just good to hear of peoples experience with silk. It just makes me realise it won't be an easy thing to do. A sample is the way forward I think. Thank you so much for replying. I do appreciate it.
