Hello-just getting back to cross Stitch
Hi, I am from central Va..... and after a few years the 'bug' has bitten again. BUT
my eyes are not the same........they actually hurt after stitching........any suggestions?
I love the Told in a Garden series......and have several of them going at one time.......crazy!

Welcome to the forum. So glad you found us and decided to jump in.
I would say that your eyes are straining to see the chart or the fabric. Not knowing anything about your stitching place I would say that a few things you can try are thus
a) better lighting, invest in an otto light or some other daylight lamp, they can really help
b) increase the size of your chart to a more work friendly size, then you won't have to strain to see the symbols
c) maybe invest in a magnifying glass, we had a thread going about the pros and cons of different types, this mayhelp when working on smaller fabric.
I am sure the other girls will jump in and offer some more good advise. So stop in often and enjoy the fun
PS What are you working on now we would love to see!!!!!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am going to get some items today.

Re: Hello-just getting back to cross Stitch
Welcome! Rose pretty much gave the best suggestions. I just recently bought a magnifier that clamps onto the edge of the q-snap frame I'm using. It makes all the difference. I love the Told In A Garden line. I have one (or two, I think) of the designs but haven't actually started one yet. I'd love to see what you're working on. Start a thread and you will get all the encouragement and advice you could ever want.

Re: Hello-just getting back to cross Stitch
Hello and welcome! Lovely to pick up an old hobby again, but what a shame about the eyes -- is it the charts which bother you or the actual stitching? If the latter, you could stitch your projects on larger counts; 11 or even 8ct aida, or if you like evenweave, why not try the very pretty 18ct fabrics that are around? Good luck!

Hi welcome to the forum, hope u manage to find something to help.
Re: Hello-just getting back to cross Stitch
Welcome from the West of Scotland. As Rose and Mabel have said, take care of those eyes using good lighting and good fabrics. I use a huge magnifier with a daylight bulb. Works for me. (So does a good night's sleep...!)

Re: Hello-just getting back to cross Stitch
Hello and welcome!
I hope you can get the problem sorted out so you can really enjoy the stitching again.
I am also having problems at the moment as I think my eyes are changing and I'm going to need stronger glasses when I go backto the optician in October. Then I'm going to ask her if she would recommend me getting a magnifer or stronger lenses purely for stitching.
Could you maybe get advice from your optician as to what would be the best solution for your eyes?

Re: Hello-just getting back to cross Stitch
I purchased a big light type thing for x stitch. And reading glasses-also working on linen is the culprit I think. So how would I get to post a pic here? Thanks.
Re: Hello-just getting back to cross Stitch
In the Tips & Tricks section there are instructions for posting pictures in a thread. If you would like to set-up a gallery you have to have a minimum of 10 post and then just go to the gallery and follow the steps.
