Suggestions for a church design

Post by MaggieM1750 »

Hi hi hi
I am part of a craft group that gets together once a month at a Lutheran church. Its not a church group per se.. but 2 of the members in the group do belong to the church. Its just a nice, neutral place to craft.. with a big empty room full of large tables we can all spread out on. All sorts of crafters.. scrapbookers, quilters, knitters, stitchers.. whatever your craft. This past Saturday I had the idea that I should stitch something for the church- sort of as a way to say thank you for letting us meet there.
But.. I am not churchy.. I don't stitch churchy patterns. I don't pay them any attention when looking through websites.
I am looking for something that will be somewhat quick to stitch and not HUGE.. so no Last Supper, or Sistine Chapel ceiling.

Any suggestions?

Something that may work would be a cornucopia--something along that line maybe?? Maybe a dove of peace???

Maybe find a chart of a small generic church, then add the church's name and the date it was established? That would be something that could be displayed just about anywhere in the church.

All good ideas.. thanks.

Is there a bible verse that says something about crafting? (Not in the sense we use it now.. but as in trade or business sense of the word)

I just did a search on bible quote + crafts.

How about

Proverbs 31:13
She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.

or in slightly different words:
She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.

oooohh.. thats a good one. Thanks! Much better than what I could find.

All I was getting with a Google search was craft ideas to explain bible verses (probably for Sunday school), or crafts you could make with verses. And refrences to witchcraft.. not looking for that either.

I know this is to long but made me smile

Dear Lord,

I’m going to need some notice
Before my days are done.
You see, I’m a craftaholic.
A fact not known to some.
My craft room, it is bulging
All corners, crannies and nooks
There's loads of boxes under the bed,
I hope no one ever looks
I tell myself when shopping,
“No more crafting bits today,”
But the craft shops are like magnets
Always drawing me their way.
I’m totally at their mercy
Just "need" a dozen of each.
Then I hurry home to hide them
Before the family starts to preach.
So Lord, I’ll need a little time
To dispose of all this stuff.
And Lord, can we just keep all of this,
Just between the two of us

I am just going to use this to save bits I find.. charts, verses, etc.

Exodus 31:3-5 double check its in the version of the bible they use
I have filled him with the Spirit of God in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all kinds of craftsmanship, to make artistic designs for work in gold, in silver, and in bronze, and in the cutting of stones for settings, and in the carving of wood, that he may work in all kinds of craftsmanship.

Praying hands might be a nice idea. I have no idea if there are patterns for that, though. Good luck!

My absolutely favourite church design might be apropos for someone in MN -- a Norwegian stave church, in blackwork... Although if I did stitch it, I'm not sure I could bear to give it away... http://www.newstitches.co.uk/magazine/b ... /ns226.htm" target="_blank

Oh.. I agree. That would be tough to give away!
And yes.. quite appropriate for Minnesota
(My family is of Swedish decent.. but this area is full of Scandinavians.)
Thanks for the link.

There's a design you might like in Jo Verso's world of cross stitch. It's like a stone arch with a stained glass design in it, a banner saying PEACE and 3 clergymen BUT you could leave them out and put something like "Everyone's welcome in the house of God."

It's quite small just 70 x 100.

I haven't decided on anything yet.. but its still swirling around in my head. We just had craft group over the weekend so I am thinking about it again.
