Now some of you are going to look at this and go "That isn't cross stitch it's color by numbers with floss!" That is true, but right now I am in China for a stud abroad and this is pretty much what they have here.
I'm making a lot of progress really quickly, it pretty much is color by numbers and considering I spend usually 9 or 10 hours a day studying Chinese it's really about all my brain can take.
The one problem that I am having is with coverage. I don't usually use 18 count aida but that is what EVERYTHING is on here. The kid said use only one strand but it was just not enough, now I am using two and I still see a lot of white. I'm going to see how it looks when it's finished and maybe use three for the next kit. Don't know if the kid will have enough floss for that though...

Reason:You've included the entire chart. It could be copied.
What an interesting and different type of kit! I can see where after 10 hrs of studying Chinese that would be great for relaxing. And you end up with a lovely cross stitch piece.
I guess it is similar to a stamped cross stitch, though I haven't done one of those. If you are using 2 strands of thread instead of the one that the kit calls for, will you have enough floss? Kits tend to be stingy with thread. Is there a way to get extra floss if you will need it? I hope you will be able to give us more updates.

I was worried about that so I actually did an entire color with one strand to see how much was left and there was plenty. That is why I was so confused. But maybe I missed something in the instructions, I'll have to take another look. I feel like I might be able to use three but it would be pretty close. The kits use DMC. So far I haven't found a store that sells anything but the kits but I will keep my eyes open. There must be one here somewhere. People in this country love cross stitch.
Sorry about having to edit your post, but we'll get into lots of trouble if people post entire charts on the site, especially when they're so easy to read. (In fact, if you could edit the second photo out, I'd be even happier...)
The way designs are done in China are really interesting, though. Very practical. And the finished piece will be lovely.
That's really interesting to see what they have in other countries. It's different than what I'm used to for sure. Now, the top photo, is that a chart? or is it printed on the aida?
Also I love the design, wish I could get my hands on something like that.
