Full Set of DMC Threads

I have noticed several people on here say they have the full set of DMC threads. I can't even imagine but I would like to . I have looked at several patterns that have 95 colors and it seems like every pattern has around 30. So, is there a place to buy the full set that is already put together? Is it any cheaper than buying them all individually? I looked at 123stitch.com and dmc's website and didn't a place to buy a full set.

I think unless you catch an estate sell etc that the only way to get a full set is to purchase each skein. People who have a full set have usually collected them over the years. Like most of mine I caught on a clearance sell and used my "treat" money from our taxes one year.

I believe back in the 80's and 90's (based on some of the older magazines I have in my stash) they had ads to buy the "complete set" then like 300 colors...but it was not full skeins of floss. Just a small piece of each color. I don't know where you would get a full set now.

There are a few online retailers that will sell you the whole set. Its always worth it to ask. It may not be something they advertise.. but could make available.
And a phone call, or an email is easy enough to send.
As for websites.. it all depends on what country you are in.. shipping/ import fees can significantly change the price. But generally US sites are cheaper than those in other countries.

I don't think DMC's website is set up all that well for selling their items. Its good for information, free patterns, color charts, etc.

I'm like Meagan- I've built mine up, bit by bit. When JoAnns has had a sale. Or whatever is leftover from kitting a project. I didn't buy the whole color line at once. And still don't have the full set. What I haven't bought- I can't see myself using- and would probably sub for a different color if a chart called for it.

In Italy it would be impossible for me to buy the whole set as the single skein is so expensive. I built mine bidding on estate find on Ebay US and had it shipped to my inkaw who live there. If you are patient enough and check often you can find great deals, sometimes on the entire set. I bougth one for a little over 50 dollar, all full skeins already bobbinated..

Cross Stitch Heaven do the full set with or without storage (though you'd have to put them on bobbins yourself)

I bought my full set of DMC on ebay a few years back. They were 32 cents per and the shipping was free. I know you can find full sets it is just a matter of researching.

I was going to suggest them.
I've used them for other stuff and they're reliable.

I was tempted myself to the full set of DMC...but as I have a full set of Anchor it seemed a bit daft!
But I might get the Colour Variations at some point!

I've always ummed and ahhed about getting a full set, and came to the conclusion that it wasn't for me as it depends on the type of designs you stitch. I mainly use DMCs for HAEDs so I will often need multiples of the same colour, so rather than having DMC colours I will never use, I buy as and when I need them. I probably have 75% of the DMCs and they are colours that are called for in most of my charts.

Just to add, Cross Stitch Heaven are brilliant, got my order of DMCs today with a little note as 2 colours were OOS. I think Donna does brilliantly considering she is a one woman show - sometimes I think stitchers forget that and think she is like Sew and So and can turn orders around within 24 hours!

Not to sound negative as it's lovely to have a full set so there's no 'thread anxiety' when kitting up a new project but I bought, or rather made up, to a full set of DMC a few years ago when the last 'new colours' were launched.
Whilst some colours have been used and replaced quite a few times others have never been used so now when I'm stitching cards for example and the colours don't have to be exactly as charted I use these.

I brought my full set after I kept ordering single skeins and it was annoying me to have to wait so long for the threads. I got mine from here.

The lady who does it is fantastic. I now order any extra threads I need from her. My full set came on bobbins and in four DMC boxes.

Edit: I forgot to say how quick she did it and sent it. I think it took her about two days to sort it out and then I got it on the third/fourth day. I ordered it just before the weekend.

Apparently abcstitchtherapy also has a full set...Not sure if itnis a full skein looks like it runs about $245ish. Have never ordered from this site...

Thank you for all the responses! I may be looking at it wrong but the set from cross stitch heaven would be $303, that's over 67 cents per skein. I can get some of the colors at Walmart for 33 cents. The other colors I can find at Hobby Lobby or Joann's, they are more expensive but still around 40 or 43 cents.

Since I just started the hobby I might just wait and collect them individually as I need them. It would also be cheaper that way.

Yes, the smaller stores have to sell DMC at higher prices. When buying in small quantities, I'm fine with using my LNS, but if I'm doing something like kitting up a HAED (which usually has somewhere around 80-90 unique colors, some needing multiple skeins) I'll go to Hobby Lobby.

Cross Stitch Heaven seems expensive because that is how much thread costs here in the UK (the RRP would make it over $1 a skein) and that is at a discount! DMC is much cheaper stateside! Just as a side note, sometimes it's a good idea to put your country in your profile and then it shows up underneath your avatar each time you post - that way forum members know what websites / suppliers to direct you to depending on where you are based.

Cross Stitch Heaven is also in the UK. They pay a LOT more for DMC than we do in the US. $0.67 is a pretty good price for a UK retailer.

I do think its cheaper to go bit by bit. Because not only do you have to think about the overall purchase price for skeins.. but you also have to think about how you are going to store and organize those skeins. And that is a whole 'nother discussion with various options. Here is a discussion thread on organization. All at once would be overwhelming for me.

JoAnn's generally has a "stock up" sale on DMC around the beginning of the year. January? February? Not sure exactly. They are having a sale starting Sunday and running all next week for $.35 per skein. Its not a coupon, just an in-store sale. Or until tomorrow, they have a coupon for 25% off whole purchase which would bring a skein down to $0.30. That you do need a coupon for, but can get it online.
I bought when on sale.. what I needed for upcoming projects, and 5-10-20 others in shades I liked. I bought the light to dark shades of a purple family, greens, pinks, blues..
DMC puts out a checklist so you can mark off the colors you have and bring that with next time you shop so you don't buy duplicates.

The last 2 years, I have bought my 2 grand girls a set of their own.
My store has "all" the colors and I buy each year, along with my year end supplies to get the years projects done, a set to keep in my restock.
A few years ago, about 10, I decided to get the "whole" set. Wisest decision I have ever made.

I dont have a complete set. I buy what I need for each project and put the leftovers in my 'general stash' when the project is done. I only kit small projects or colors that need only one skien from my general stash because I dont want to risk color variations from dye lots. even though dmc is pretty good with their colors I have found differences in the past.

I reccently found a BIG difference in two skeins 3082, my ink circles called for two skien and I knew I already had one in my stash, the new one was way darker/richer than the old one. So then I had to make a second trip.
