quilt cross stitching

Post by mommy2be »

i have a two ply stamped quilt that i want to start working on. i don't want to pull the thread all the way through from the back, but i am not sure how to make a knot if i just do the cross stitching inbetween the material. i dont want to have to sew a backing onto it when i am finished.

I cant quite picture the material you have, is there any chance you can post a photo, or a link to it?

I'm not a quilter, but my sister is. Seems to me that you stitch the stamped part and then put the batting in between the layers and quilt the 2nd ply to the bit you have stitched. Does that sound sensible? Then you don't have to worry about the back of the stitching because it is safely between the two pieces of fabric.

*may have misunderstood entirely, in which case profuse apologies!*

Do the instructions give any guidance? Here's probably another silly question: is it for cross stitch or 'blackwork' (ie some combination of back stitching techniques)? If it's for back stitch, I guess it would be possible to slip the needle between the layer and them it wouldn't show on the back. :thinks: I'm a bit bamboozled myself!

You might start each thread with a loop knot. See here if you don't know how http://www.needlework-tips-and-techniqu ... reads.html" target="_blank

it indicates that some spots are supposed to be backstitched, but not the whole thing.

im pretty confused too haha. i bought it to make for my baby but it seems more complicated then not.

i will try the loop knot that you sent me. thank you!

You are most welcome!

Whew! It's challenging enough trying something new, but trying something new with a brain resembling porridge isn't ideal, either! (Or perhaps that was just me when expecting my boys... could be! )
