advice needed on DMC Soluble canvas

Post by Pauline »

I was hoping someone here might have used DMC Soluble Canvas before and might be able to give me some advice. I'm currently stitching a design on an apron using this soluble canvas, i've never used it before and am already worrying about the end stage. I had looked in the instructions and some questions arose, so i hope someone can advise me.

1) in the instructions it says i need to put the canvas in 40 to 50 degrees centigrade water. Can i just use a household thermometer or maybe a meat thermometer from the kitchen to check the temp of the water. Or is it maybe not that important what temp it is as long as its hot?

2) It also says in the instructions that soap should be added to the water. What kind of soap though, handsoap or should i maybe use washing powder since its cloth?

They might be silly questions and me just worrying about nothing. But worrying too much is unfortunately one of my failings and i just don't want to mess up this project since its a present. So any advice would be greatly appreciated!

40C is 104F - any thermometer that has that temperature within its range should be fine. As for soap, I don't know since I've never used it, but maybe test it with a small scrap (just a tiny snippet) of it and various soaps to see which one it dissolves in best?
