Calling lovers of Blackwork!

Post by Serinde »

Over at Needle 'n' Thread, there's a post concerning a neat looking blackwork SAL -- a freebie! -- being run by Elizabeth Almond of Blackwork Journey. I might very well check it out, especially since I have most of what I need in my stash.

Do I need another project? Do I care?

Looks interesting. I bookmarked the site and to answer your question:
A new project is always fun no matter how many others you have!
Not that I am suggesting anything, but I would love to see you stitch this. I know you'd do an awesome job.

This looks like a fascinating pattern. I'm kinda tempted.. not sure I want to do the metallics though - maybe stitch those in an accent color instead? I think I have the fabric for it, and black floss is plentiful... and I do love blackwork! I think I'll keep an eye on it and possibly add it to my rotation at some point.

Ooohh.. thanks for the heads up!
I've got Liz Almonds page in my bookmarks- but haven't been to her site for a while.

Do I need another new project?!?! No.. absolutely not!
I've got waaaay to much on my list already for this year. Plus a stitch bug that has taken the back seat since a new toy has made its way into my house- my first sewing machine. So.. add another stitch project to my list? I shouldn't.. but I think I will.

That looks really pretty ... and tempting ... you could do a rainbow version chagning colours by the block... :thinks: :thinks: :thinks:

That looks beautiful but I just can not. I have projects that I have to do this year and that would be such a distraction. But I do love the blackwork. I hope some of you do this so I can watch from the sidelines.

Light effects is awful, BUT the diamant isn't badly behaved at all. (Within the meaning of the Act, of course.)

@jocellogirl Glad I saw it, too!

I'm definitely thinking of doing this. I don't know that I would get it done this year, but I'd love to at least start it.

I'm still trying to decide how I would want to do colors. I don't think I could let such an opportunity for playing with colors and different threads pass me up, though I think it would look lovely in all black.

Maybe I could just do enough colors so that the same color block would never be touching itself...

So many possibilities! Perhaps I should pick a fabric first...

Definitely considering this. I would have a field day in my LNS picking colors.

ETA: I think I'm going to work up a schematic for where the color changes would happen. Still trying to decide if I would want to do each block a different color and keep similar colors and shades together or stripes of blocks in the same color or what.

I absolutely love projects like this. They are so inspiring!

Now I'm starting to think about playing with a gradient or color progression of some sort. The shapes lend themselves perfectly to it!

Gah.. must focus on HAED.

I knew I shouldn't have looked at this post! I love how quickly blackwork stitches up, but already have one blackwork project begging to be worked on (it's been neglected for months now  ) but I've saved the charts anyway.

This Stitching From Stash challenge has me looking at things I wouldn't normally look at! This freebie blackwork SAL has me intrigued, especially with the different color possibilities. It reminds me of all the different ways some of you are doing Mabel's hardanger (no idea how to spell that) SAL. I've got some projects lined up though so I've saved the PDFs for now.
