:applesauce: :applesauce: Both of these are beautiful. Persephone is fantastic. I love how the colors stand out in front of that beautiful wall paper. And your Fleur de Lys is lovely. Are you using two different varigated threads?? I think they are perfect together.

as already stated all your works are lovely! truly!

persephone will be grand! i love the fabric choice and it's interesting how you back stitch as you go along. she is very 1920s--art deco. her face is just perfect. i look forward to more updates.

and the fleur de lys is so elegant! deceptively simple--but i love the subtle color changes. beautiful!

thanks for sharing!
Linnea

Maud ~ Such lovely work! I have the leaf chart and am always tempted to stitch but haven't yet decided what to use it for. Your idea is great, but I've searched and searched and gave up. Can someone please tell me what ORT stands for. I'm gathering that it has something to do with the leftover threads.

Beautiful work on all of them. I love the colours in Persephone - it'll be stunning when it's done.

I found this at About.com Cross Stitch: The snippets of floss left over from stitching are called Orts from an archaic term that means scraps. Many stitchers save the orts for other craft projects.

Ort may also be said to stand for "Old Ratty Tails". Some stitchers snip them smaller and leave them out for the birds to put in their nests. If you do this avoid heavily dyed flosses and metallics that might be hazardous to wildlife.

I knew what an ort was. Never knew where such an odd sounding term came from.

Hi Carole,

Thanks for answering DahliaDoll's question :)

Yes I'm using two DMC Color Variations, numbers 4025 and 4047. Also the photo doesn't show it very well, but the fabric is a light aqua blue (Mermaid's Message from Polstitches, in 32ct jobelan)
