Zweigart to DMC colour conversion

Post by alg »

This is my first post, and I tried to search for previous posts asking this question, so apologies if I just failed to find it:

Does anyone know of a chart that gives approximate colour conversions from Zweigart fabrics to DMC floss? I have a DMC shade card and it would be great to be able to know approximately what colour Zweigart fabrics are before buying (as I have to buy them online).

Thanks for any help.

I use Wichelts site quite a bit. They give an approximate DMC color

http://www.wichelt.com/U3R5bGU=/left/cat?b=t" target="_blank" target="_blank

They don't list fabrics per manufacturer.. but aren't the linens like Edinburgh, Dublin, Cashel, etc.. Zweigart's system for naming the different counts? I'm not sure how you would be able to know if an aida they have is Zweigart, or Charles Craft, or DMC.

I also looked at the Yarn Tree site. They are a distributor of stitchy goods including Zweigart fabrics. But no DMC color equivalent is listed and you have to buy large cuts- maybe full or half yards.

I found this Zweigart Linen DMC Conversion Chart. Is this the type of chart you are looking for?

And welcome  to the forum. Looking forward to getting to know you.

Thank you everyone, those are just the sort of thing that I am looking for. I think that a combination may get me what I want. Many years ago I bought a Zweigart catalogue but it seemed to go out of date so quickly and now the fabrics they sell don't bear much resemblence!

The wichelt site looks particularly useful as I think that I've worked out the numbers that they give are manufacturer codes rather than wichelt inventory numbers. So hopefully I can take those and ask Sew and So how they compare with their website numbers (though am open to suggestions of other shops I've always found sew and so to be brilliant). (I live in the UK).

If anyone has used the stitchers' paradise chart linked above: do you know when it says paler / darker whether it is the floss or fabric that is paler or darker?

Or indeed - I notice that the Wichelt site also often says "paler" next to the DMC colour. Does anyone know whether it is the fabric or floss that is paler?

I've never used the chart (just found it doing a search) but I bet if you contact the web sites they will tell you which is the paler color - fabric or floss. When I first saw it I assumed it was the fabric, but when I saw your question I realized I didn't have a clue.

123 Stitch also list a DMC equivalent for the fabrics they sell.

 It is embarassing to realize that for all the time I have spent on that website, looking at fabrics and trying to figure things out, I have never noticed the column of that chart which specifies the DMC equivalent. I'll bet there are more around that I have missed also.

See? If you're not careful, you learn something new everyday. :)

I use the DMC equivalents list in 123Stitch. They're very helpful.
