Hi. I know we have threads for gridding but I decided to start a new thread since this is so specific.
Has anyone used the Pilot Frixion Highlighters on their aida? They come with an eraser but what is even better is that the heat of an iron is supposed to remove the highlighter line/markings. You are supposed to hold the iron a few inches above the fabric and it will disappear.
My mom uses them for her quilting and I was wondering if anyone had used them on aida? I think I will try it on a small project for starters.
Here's a link for them on Amazon. There's a lot of information on the page from the manufacturer.
Thanks!

I havent used these myself but I think if your mom uses them successfully in quilting than it should work on aida. testing it first is a good idea.
I use the clover water soluble fabric pen for gridding aida.

I've used the Clover blue marking pen/marker myself. I had a scare as a few of the lines were very difficult to come out. Always looking for new tools!

A cautionary tale from Mary Corbet on these pens in general and FriXion in particular. Although I do use the clover one (and find it fades over time... not handy with an HAED!).
Re: Pilot Frixion Highlighters used for gridding
Nice article and I am not a gridder so I do not have much to worry over but did I miss the part of the article were she gave an alternative to the pens??? What does she suggest using if not these magic pens?????
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror
Re: Pilot Frixion Highlighters used for gridding
Rose, because Mary Corbet is an embroiderer, she does a lot of tracing, and there are other articles about what she uses to do that. But she doesn't need to grid, like many of us do. One thing about the Needle-n-thread website is that the comments are usually very useful (not only sycophantic!), so often there's more information to be gleaned there.

Re: Pilot Frixion Highlighters used for gridding
I read somewhere that someone uses plain old washable Crayola markers for gridding and such.
I keep forgetting to grab a pack and play around with scraps to see if they really are washable. I'm never over on that side of Target. I don't grid specifically- but I do mark up my fabric for edges or center lines.
So far, I've only used the blue clover pens. Does anyone else think theirs dries up rather quickly? I know I haven't used all the ink in mine, but its hard to get a line with mine after about 3-4 months. Now that I am sewing- I've thought of switching over to the chalk "pens" or even the loose chalk line maker things.

I've had one or two of the Clover pens dry up after what seems a short period to me, and then some that go on forever. I've tried another brand also (name escapes me) which is about the same. I have never tried the DMC washable pen, but somewhere I heard or read that it also works well. Might try it next time but I will have to get it online. Clover or Dritz (I think that is it) are available in the craft stores and Walmart.
