Welcom

Post by Glendab »

Hi everybody,

I've just joined the Forum from the wilder part of Gloucestershire . I have been stitching for over 20 years and have stitched for magazines for 10 years. I'm a knitter, sewer and crafter as well and together with my cross stitching stuff I think I have enough wool, craft materials and dress/furnishing fabric stashed about the place to clothe the Third World. I've just been getting rid of my cupboardful of cross stitch magazines going back years - still got quite a lot left though so if anyone is looking for a particular mag I may well have it.

Look forward to reading your tips, stitching experiences and requests and offering any helpful advice if I can.

 Hi Glenda and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! Sounds like you have more than enough to keep you busy. When you are cross stitching, what types of projects do you like to do? Or is it pretty much decided by what the magazines need? Looking forward to getting to know you.

Thanks Carole,

Yes, my freelance work for the mags is decided by them. It varies a lot from fine stuff on 18ct aida through even weave, waste canvas work, plastic canvas, perforated paper, punched wooden gift badges & brooches to standard 14ct aida. The designs aren't always to my taste but occasionally there will be something that I would stitch for myself.

In the past I have designed a large sampler of our home which hangs over the mantlepiece and which one of my daughters has earmarked for her inheritance!
I love Margaret Sherry designs and have made lots of pictures and cards for friends from them. I also like mini samplers, unusual floral designs and often adapt charts from magazines to suit my needs. I don't do so many big pieces these days preferring something I can have on my lap as I now need to use a portable magnifying light and I find it more comfortable to stitch in an armchair rather than sit upright to a standing frame.

I must stop going to stitch and craft shows though. I can't resist buying kits and charts that take my fancy and I'm never going to get through all the ones I already have.

Good to hear from you. Glenda

Welcome Glenda, your stash sounds amazing and huge. I know I am an all around crafter too and I don't have nearly as much wool as you but I have a fair amount, between us we could knit scarf, mittens, and a toque for everyone on the board I would think lol.

It is nice to meet you I hope you have fun her. I know I am having an amazing time as well.
