I haven't done a cross stitch for years but recently bought a Disney one...it's called "D179/180 Disney's Watercolours spring/summer". I have separated the strands into the colours but I'm confused by some of the additional instructions. As well as the normal cross stitch, there are two additional types of stitch. One says "please stitch using a 1/2 X-stitch with a single strand; please stitch from bottom left to top right". I understand the 1/2 to mean the first half of a X (a / without the \ across the top?) The second type of stitch is more complex. It says "please stitch using a 1/2 X-stitch using a single strand" but them each symbol uses 2 colours, for example "-" symbol means "light tan for bottom 1/2 X-stitch" and "straw for top 1/2 X stitch". What does this mean?!

It sounds like they are instructing to do it as a full stitch with 1 strand tan on the bottom and 1 strand straw on top. It will give the effect of a blended needle, or a bit of shading with the darker color on the bottom.
This will be a bit fiddly to do if you cross each stitch as you go. Or if these are single stitches here and there. But if there is a block of them, I would do all the under stitches, finish off your needle. Switch colors, stitch the top leg and then finish off your needle.

It could also mean that there are 2 half stitches in the same square. Disney does like to use alot of fractionals and they also like to have 2 color in the same square. I usually make those into 3/4 stitches to file the whole square. But it really depends on the pattern and what effect they are looking for.

I agree with Mags. do all the / stitch in tan finish the needle and do the \ stitch in straw. the effect will be quite nice, cant wait to see pictures!
