I just bought some Q snaps for a larger project, and it just seems so huge and awkward. Do any of you use the 11x17 or 17x17 frames for lap work, or do you find you need a stand to use them comfortably?
Any tips for how to hold them for use without a stand?

Re: Q snaps
they do seem really large at first.
I almost exclusively use them in the 11 x 17 construction (unless I have a smaller project), but I find the 17x17 is too unwieldy and big for me. I struggle to reach the top left corner especially in the 11x17 so the 17x17 would be impossible for me to reach in the early stages of a project
I normally use my Lowery stand (the best purchase EVER for me) but have been stitching on my bed more of late. I either hold the frame with whichever hand doesnt have the needle (so I can still stitch two handed) or i prop the top edge up on something - a pillow, my knee, the arm of a chair etc
the key is just to try until you find something that works for you

Re: Q snaps
I use an 8x8 frame most often, occasionally an 8x11.
I tried an 11x11 but that was too big. And the 6x6 was too small for me.
Also, my projects need to fit into a 9x12 vinyl zip bag.
So, 8x8 is what works best for me.
I hold in hand. I don't use any type of stand.
I do find when using my 8x11, I hold it sort of on the diagonal. With a corner resting on my chest, arm of the sofa, or table. I balance the weight on something else or it would get too heavy with frame + fabric.

Re: Q snaps
That's good to know!
I ordered the 8x8, 11x11, and 17x17 (thinking I could combine them to make other sizes like 11x17 etc), but they're a bit heavier than I'd expected. I like the 8x8 so far (I just started using it today), but I'm imagining some major wrist ache and general clutziness with the larger ones. I may just return the 17x17 unopened. But I would like to try the 11x17 for my Once Upon a Time Sampler. Hmmmmm . . .
I'm not really interested in having a stand at this point. Trying not to accumulate too much STUFF, you know? (Or maybe I just need to sell off some of my knitting and crochet stuff that I'm never going to use to make room for some more stitchy stuff. I can't store/afford ALL the things for ALL the hobbies. LOL.)

I have only tried the 8 x 8 Qsnap so far and like it, but I am anxious to see what you think of the larger size. I had to measure my 8 x 8 when I got it (are you SURE that's really 8 inches????). It just looked so small. LOL

Re: Q snaps
I really like the 11X11 or the 11X8 anything much bigger and I can not reach the top corners. I use a lap stand and I just love it as I can then stitch double handed.

If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror

I sure tried to do that.....a couple of charities received some nice donations!I can't store/afford ALL the things for ALL the hobbies. LOL.)
