Anyone use Sulky threads?

Post by catnip777 »

If you have- what type of Sulky do you use? I have seen on other boards people rave about using it. I know it comes in solid and variegated colors. Where is the best place to purchase it? Can I find it at Joann's?

Thanks!

Joann does sell Sulky, but I don't know if they carry the entire line. I bought a spool to use for gridding awhile ago and at that time they had lots of different types and colors. I didn't really look at them because all I wanted was gridding thread.

I bought four reels of various 12wt Sulky cotton petite thread to see if it really is the same as two strands of regular embroidery cotton. Haven't been able to do the experiment yet (I was thinking of using the black for one of my HAEDs, which features a lot of black). Have also wondered if it might substitute for a #12 pearl cotton... Sulky have a good pedigree, thread-wise, and the colours are gorgeous. The higher the wt number, the finer the thread. Quilters love this thread.

I had thought about using a variegated color in the "Save the Stitches" blackwork pattern that is on Blackwork Journey. I thought it might look very pretty.

So I'll look for 12wt. Thanks!
