Hello from North Carolina

Post by JeanFarish »

I am so happy to be here! I have been away from the cross stitch community for too long! I retired from teaching social studies about a year ago and now I have time once again to immerse myself in needlework. I'm a little rusty but it's coming back. Currently, I am doing a whitework project with one cross stitch inner border. As I learn to post pictures, I'll add one. I think I mastered creating an avatar and a signature. I guess I'll find out when I post this. For those of you in the UK, the flower (if it posts!) is one I unearthed when working in the research room of the Victoria and Albert Museum many years ago.

 Hi Jean and welcome to the forum from your neighbor to the South in South Carolina! So glad that you have returned to stitching and that you found us. I love your avatar and I am looking forward to seeing your pictures. If you've been following us for a while you know that we never get tired of pictures. What types of projects (besides whitework) do you like to do?

Carole,

I like samplers, Americana, whimsical and traditional projects. Other than stamped embroidery when I was a child, and one crewel work project, I have only stitched things that I design. I admire the work of many designers but I come up with ideas faster than I can stitch so I guess my stash of WIP is pretty substantial.

Thanks for the welcome!
Jean

To Sally in Brisbane:

The center is the cross cornered cushion stitch. I think I can walk you through it if you want to learn. The rest of the flower motif is cross stitch. It's a detail from my "Hare & the Basket" Sampler. I wrote about that design in my blog today.

Thank you Jean for the information about the stitches. I had heard about the cross corner cushion stitch and I am almost sure it is in one of my embroidery mags. :D

What a beautiful sampler that is and a very true verse as well. I learnt from my Grandmother and my daughter and a grand daughter stitch occasionally. Lovely to share our passion.

Hi Jean...from another North Carolinian. I'm in Kernersville which is dead center of Winston-Salem, High Point and Greensboro. I was beginning to think I was the only stitcher that lived in the state :D.

I've not been away from the cross stitch community or stitching for that matter but I did just return to this forum. So again, I'm glad to see you here and look forward to getting to know you better.
Happy Stitching,
~Sue P~

Welcome to the forum from yet another North Carolinian (and a newly minted one at that)!

I am glad to know others in my new state like to stitch as well. :)

Looking forward to seeing your work!
