Project Cleaning to Frame

Post by kpfaris87 »

Hello to everyone! I just wanted to ask a few of the experienced people in here and ask them what is the best way to clean your cross stitch work (with or without beads). This particular piece I am going to have framed for a gift for someone. I definitely don't want to damage it, but it is not very dirty anyway. Just from the loop and my fingers touching it. Any advice would be great!

Happy cross stitching!

Here's a link to a thread about washing that we had a while back:

I hand wash mine with Orvus -- doesn't matter if it has beads or not. Other folks throw it in a lingerie bag or tie it in a pillowcase and toss it in the washing machine on gentle cycle. If it is beaded, I wouldn't put it in a lingerie bag, but the pillowcase would be fine. I'd be afraid the beads would catch in the mesh of the lingerie bag. (It's probably an unfounded fear, but that's my opinion.) If it's just skin oil, a light hand washing will suffice. Roll it in a towel and squeeze -- don't wring -- the excess water out. Lay flat to dry and then lay it face down on a terry towel, lay a pressing cloth over it and iron it. The terry cloth will pad the beads, if there are any.

If it's not really grubby I just sprinkle mine with baby talc, roll up and leave a couple of days then shake out. It's what my grandmother taught me to do and it never fails.
