HAED mini train of dreams. update Feb 1st

Post by cairee »

I had started this one on an evenweave, 28ct I think, that I had gotten at Michaels. I dont love the fabric, and didnt want to continue. so today I found myself thinking about that lovely piece of 48ct silk gauze I had sitting in my stash. so I restarted Mini Train of Dreams.
Im stitching right to left in columns 20 wide, 15 for the first one. I decided to go right to left so that my needle always comes up an empty hole. I have to use a beading needle as a 28 tapestry doesn't fit in the holes!

here is the first 10x15 block with a dime to show just how small these stitches are. any smaller and I'd have to get a magnifying glass!

I agree completely! I use a magnifier on anything over 18 ct. Can't begin to imagine on 48 ct. This is going to be amazing.

And I thought I was crazy stitching over 1 on 32 count linen!

This is going to be gorgeous - I'm looking forward to seeing your progress! I love the pattern too!

Wauw!!!! This looks great!!! I never have even heard of silk gauze "fabric". But it looks great!! Even I can see that I could work on that! That is the first fabric other than Aida that I would feel comftable stitching on!! It is very "clear" to me even if it is very tiny!!! For example, not 1 evenwave-fabric that I have seen on here is as clear as this is to me!!!

The question now ofcourse is. Where to you buy something like that?! Do you have a link to an online shop (that would ship internationally)? And does silk gauze only comes in 48ct? Or is there also something a little more around 32ct or even 28ct?

And could you make a picture that is not as close up? So from further away? I would like to see how the fabric looks that way!!

(Sorry can't think of a coherent response to someone working on 48ct).

Amazing!!! Just like everyone else said, it is impressive to be doing it on such high fabric count. I can't wait to watch it grow!

Silk gauze comes in lots of different counts. http://www.sewandso.co.uk/ has it in 40-60ct and http://www.kreinik.com/shops/Silk-Gauze/ has it in 18-90ct. its quite a bit more expensive than aida, linen or evenweave but Im officially an addict.

Thank you! But reading through google also told me that you can not use it with a frame or hoop unless you sew other fabric on the "outside border". So it is not doable for me. I simply cannot stitch large projects in hand. But maybe someday for a small project, because it looks awesome!

I mounted mine flat to a piece of thin cardboard (cereal box type) just cut a hole in the cardboard, and tape the fabric to the back of the board. when its done just cut the fabric off, leave extra fabric for cut loss, you dont want the fabric that has glue residue from the tape.
you could use a scroll frame, but you would have to be careful not to pull it too tight.

first column (and page) done! its 1 3/4" tall. this is surprisingly fast to stitch, maybe its because it's tent stitching.
