Simple framing question

Post by TaraL »

Any discussion I've seen regarding framing a stitched piece always mentions using spacers or a mat when using glass in order for the stitching to not be touched by the glass. I'm not planning to use a mat for my current project, but may I ask what do you use for spacers? Is there something specific I can buy? Maybe some kind of clear adhesive "dots" that would separate the glass from the stitching? Where would I find such a thing? Have you creative people come up with a perfect solution? Thanks in advance!!

I'm pretty sure there are official things called spacers but I don't know where to get them. Maybe ask a framing store if they sell them?

Yes, spacers are a specific thing.

They usually come in long sticks (about 5 feet) and you cut them to length. Peel off the backing tape to reveal the adhesive and then stick them to the underside of the glass. They go around the underside edge of the glass so they're hidden by the edge of the frame. They hold the glass away from what's under it.

I'd mail order them or I'd get them from a local chain framing store that sells readi-made frames and precut mats. When I lived in Massachusetts, there was a Frame King right next door. I'd buy a couple of sticks at a time. I had to ask for them. It wasn't something they had out with the other merchandise.
