I have a set of ornaments I am working on that drives me batty. Nothing difficult about them, but there are about 30 colors in each ornament, and some colors are used for full stitches, half stitches, half stitches with 2 strands, and with 4 strands, other colors are used with just 1 strand, and one with three strands. It's just such a hassle to keep up with that I can't bring myself to work on it for too long at a time.

That said, the finished ornaments (not finished assembly, just finished stitching) are gorgeous and when I look at the 2 out of 6 that I have done, they're well worth the effort. So slowly but surely I plug away at them. I started the first one in January and intended to do one a month when I needed a break from my HAED. So far it hasn't worked out that way! In fact I find that after stitching them a short time I need a break - and that's when I pull out my HAED!

I will get them done eventually. I really will!

As for hiring someone to finish your piece - gosh, I've done some finishing work for others, but I don't think I'd dare take on a Chatelaine that belonged to someone else! And I don't think after stitching one, I'd be able to part with it. I'm dying to stitch one of my own though. Maybe as a reward if I finish this set of 6 ornaments I'll start working on kitting one up.

Seed?,
Is this Amish scene, with a farm house, quilts on the closeline, has a garden, children playing? Done in a "tiny weeny" stitch? Don't know what other higher counts look like other than 22.
The reason I asked is, B/H and I go to a next county over from ours, to a home cooking restaurant, and the booth we always pick, has this Amish farm pic. I would "love" the name of it and who did it. It is absolutely beautiful.
Now back to the subject, :tizzy: :tizzy: :tizzy: I have been working on, In Loving Memory Remembrances, for 2 1/2 years, since He "laid" on my heart to do the 1st one. I did 9 last year, for our 3 kids Godmothers, who lost their Mom in 2009. He "showed" me her Remembrance in a dream in 2010 and He laid 7 others, the year before, on my heart to do "before" her, caused they had to be mailed, as she was local. I am doing "another" 7 this year and will have yet again, 4 more next year "before" I get started on the 1 of 8 afghans for the family next year. So in "total", that will make 27, since starting. It only takes a 1 1/2 weeks to do one. So "if" I don't have "any" interruptions, dr. appts, running errands or making phone calls for B/H while he is at work, :tantrum: :tantrum: I can do 2 a month. :whoop: :whoop:

This is a fascinating thread to me! I've been stitching for about 26 or 27 years (my first large piece was completed in 1988) and I have NEVER worked on a piece that I hated or wound up hating. I've bought patterns that I later decided not to stitch, but that's as close as I've gotten. Mind you, there is one thing that drives me batty: large sections of solid color. When I've worked on pieces with large sections of solid color, I want to tear my hair out, but never hate it to the point of stopping and have always loved the end result. :)

For the piece I just finished this last Friday (Shiny Room's "China Girl": http://www.myhobbytown.com//search.php?search=sr-b80) I had bought cheap fabric that I wound up hating. It was from a chain craft store. I shouldn't have bothered even looking there for fabric. But it came out DARLING and was the perfect housewarming gift for my friend, so I can't even really say I hated that. :) I really can't say I hated it since I'm already planning on making it again for myself.... just on GOOD fabric. :D

Crosstitcher1,

That sure sounds like it! The thing that stands out are the oversized chickens. If this were a scene out of real life those chickens would be the size of ponies! I'll take a pic of it next time I'm over there and look on the back to see if I wrote down the pattern. It was A LOT of solid stitching. HOURS....DAYS....of stitching, lol.

This is it. It's part of a triptych. I only did the scene on the left.

According to someone online it's called "Amid Amish Life" Triptych from "Cross-Stitch and Country Crafts," a three-piece series that was in the March, May and July 1987 issues. (It is also available in "101 Best-Loved Designs from CSCC" by Better Homes and Gardens.

Ty. Seed. Yep that's it, but they made the whole project into 1 piece. It is so "lifelike" to me and soooooooo beautiful.
Thanks again for the site. I added it to my favorites.

I saw a pic of one made into one large piece and it was gorgeous. I'm in awe of the amount of stitching to finish it that way.
