Hello and help needed!

Post by Ninja Poppy »

I have an idea for street art based on cross stitch to commemorate the centenary of WW1. My first one didn't go so well because I found it difficult to translate diagonal crosses on perpendicular material to vertical/horizontal crosses on a diagonal grid: Image but for the second one I was able to find a square grid fence so I am much happier with the result: Image
Does anyone have any hints as to how to improve the one on a diagonal grid because that's what most chain link fences are?! Hope you can help

I think you did very well!

Perhaps if you "outlined" the design first? Then the difficulties would be less obvoius?

I actually like the diagonal one more! It really is the same thing either way - just rotated at 45 degrees. That said, I think it might be a bit clearer what you were doing if there was some sort of visual definition between each of the flower petals. Maybe some 'backstitching' ? Even done in the same color and carried on to outline the entire petal in the same red will give the shapes a bit more definition.

I agree that the diagonal one looks okay. It just seems a bit wonky to you because it's turned 45 degress, but I think you did a good job. Add some backstitching and you're good-to-go.

Very clever idea, BTW. :) I love it.
