kreinik question

Post by NinjaBetty »

Okay so I am stitching a chart that uses the wonderful kreinik 032 but I like using the blending filament better. My question is this: Since I am stitching this using 2 over 1 full cross, would I use one strand of the blending filament with one strand of B5200 or white or would I use two strands of the white colour with one strand of filament? The blending filament is very thin but this is also done on 25 ct so just wanting to know what you experts would do :D

I think I would use the blending filament with 2 strands of the white floss------maybe you could try it out on a scrap piece of fabric--using both methods, to see which will give you the coverage you like better ;)

If I am stitching with 2 strands I just add the filament to them, either that or use 1 strand of DMC and a double strand of filament, depends on just how much bling I want.

Thank you so much for the response. I do think since the filament is so thin that two strands of white and the filament will be just perfect. I will definitely test it out to see what I like the best. I knew I could count on the lovely members here to give me wonderful insight :D

I've been wondering exactly the same lately as I will be using Kreinik for the first time in my new start. I've played with blending filament and find that two strands of filament over 1 on 28ct looks okay for the few stitches I've done. Can the filament be used on its own like that? Would it look odd used on its own surrounded by normal DMC?

I've used it on it's own when I've run out of No. 4 braid and it looked OK to me.

I have used a lot of blending filament over the years. Two fairy themed afghans and one angel themed had a lot of sparkly. Also I didn't know about any other metallic threads then. Depending on how much bling I wanted I would use 1 or 2 strands of filament with regular floss or just use the blending filament alone. (Didn't have a clue what #4 Braid was  ) Generally, I prefer the subtle sparkle but sometimes a piece requires more. I found that I used about half the length of thread that I normally use. And it washes perfectly. Those afghans get tossed in the washing machine (gentle cycle) and dryer all the time.

Hope you will show us what you are stitching!

I'm stitching mini space traveler so it will have blingy stars and other shiny bits so it really needs to stand out. Would you recommend that I use the regular kreinik instead? I don't have a problem with it since I just drag it through the thread heaven first. I just want it to be blingy as possible in the places that calls for it.

Since you like the blending filament better I would use two strands of the filament or one strand of floss and two of the filament. You could try both on a fabric scrap if you have one, or in a corner of your piece and see which you prefer. I would think for this, a 10 x 10 square would give you a good idea of how it will look. I'm looking forward to seeing this one!
