Help please- problems with patterns

Post by Aqualily »

Hello,

I am new to cross stitch and have come across a stitch in a pattern I don't know.

It has two of the key items overlaid in a single stitch square.

What does this mean to do?

Thanks

A.

 Hi Aqualily and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! and welcome to cross stitching. It's hard to exactly know what you are referring to but my best guess, if what you are seeing looks something like this:

Image

where you have differet symbels in one box (like the o and the .) with or without a diagonal line through the middle of the box, it is telling you to do a quarter stitch of each color in the box. Often a back stitch, represented by the dark diagonal completes that square. I am surprised that the directions for your pattern don't explain that there will be quarter or other types of stitches required, but sometimes they don't. If that isn't what you think the chart is asking for, then I'm not sure what you are looking at. We cannot have a chart posted on the forum because that is a violation of copy right laws and we adhere to those pretty strictly, but if you could post a copy of one or two of the squares you are not sure of, it would be easier to know for sure. I'm not great at explaining things, but we have a few members who are very good at describing things and they may be of more help.

You also could contact the designer of the chart or the manufacturer if it is a kit. Most are more than willing to answer your questions. I hope that you figure it out and will post pictures of your project and your progress.

Do you mean that with in the square there is say a symbol # then a / and then a &

#= DMC 310
&= 317

#/&

if this is what you mean then it can be 2 half stitches or it can mean 1/4 stitch and 3/4 stitch. On the instruction section of your directions it should tell you what of these 2 explanations is the correct one.
