Hello from England

Post by Sojourner »

Hi - I've just discovered this forum , and joined; looking forward to getting lots of tips from all the experts on here. First thing is - I'm a man (a man embroidering??? :applesauce: ) I also do freestyle surface embroidery, but right now am into Cross Stitch Collectible's "Studio Boat", Monet painting. Just finished Van Gogh's "Sunflowers" which was a free download off the net. That took me months but was very enjoyable. (31,000 stitches, the Monet is 54,000.. )
Anyway, best wishes to all, and are there any other blokes out there?
Sojourner.

 Hello and welcome to the forum from South Carolina! And though we are mostly women, there are definitely some men who are here also and are some very fine cross stitchers. I hope that you will stick around and post some pictures of your work. We love pictures! If you've been following some of the threads in our SAL section you will see we have projects from smaller charts to some incredibly large ones. Lots of tips and tricks to learn and to to share. I have learned more in the three years I have been a member than in the 25 years I'd been stitching.

Nah! But it is amazing what's out there and the magnitude of some designs. (Perhaps that why we have both a pub, the Stash & Grab, and a hospital -- St Cross Stitchers. Stress gets folk one way or 'tother!)

Other blokes?

I think I probably count as one.

Never get intimidated by what is done here, instead use it as a spur to try for bigger/smaller/better/more detailed/more accurate/better stitched etc.. I came here wanting to learn, having reached the point of thinking 'Is that all?' about cross stitch, this was my project at the time: http://www.crossstitchforum.com/viewtop ... =6&t=25597. Now I've halved the stitch size, am using dithering in the picture and the colour count has gone from 16 to 118... (http://www.crossstitchforum.com/viewtop ... =6&t=26356). Most of this change is due to encouragement from the members here. It is making an enormously satisfying improvement to my stitching. Join the party - things may well get better. But slowly.

Regards,

Richard.

Welcome!

I am also new to this forum, but so far, it seems very promising. Van Gogh is on my list, too! I am currently working on Starry Night from Cross Stitch Collectibles. That website has many classic works of art. :)

The Van Gogh was a free download from http://www.freecrossstitchonline.com" target="_blank. My current project is Monet's "Studio Boat" from Cross Stitch Collectibles, after that another Monet: "Rue Montargueil with Flags". Then Picasso's "Guernica", bought from a Spanish website, appropriately.
It seems from looking through the forum that we all have tons of projects stacked up...
